I love my job! For me blogging is the best decision I could have ever made. I get to do things I love, be my own boss, meet amazing people, have a voice and earn a living at the same time. And my schedule? Flexible! I work from home, which is amazing. I can start dinner, be home when Josh gets off of school, fold a load of laundry while I’m on a call, and work around any appointments we have. Now don’t get me wrong. I work – a lot. But to me, it’s not really work. I use my day and things I truly love into my work.
Working from home gives you so much flexibility! Whether you decide to do it full time or are just looking for ways to supplement your income, you can do so from home! Here are five ideas for to earn money while working at home.
1. Become a VA
Blogging is a lot of work! Many established blogs are looking for help. There are so many opportunities that are available for you to be able to choose something you enjoy.
- Do you like to write? You can write articles and sell them online. Articles are typically 300 words and usually include at least one photo. Images need to be quality (think pin-worthy) and you can edit them using free software like PicMonkey. You can write things like articles or even recipes that you make. There are several groups on Facebook that bloggers use to purchase content. Just search ‘buy content’ or ‘VA’ and a few groups should pop up!
- Do you like to take photos? If you are a rock star photographer, you may want to try selling some photos! You can try in one of the VA Facebook groups or sign up to sell on a stock image site like this one.
- Do you like social media? Yes! You can get paid to manage social media! Scheduling out posts for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, Stumble Upon, etc all take time. And when you are trying to write articles, edit photos, answer emails, create content, work on campaigns and handle the business side of a blog, social media can sometimes take a backseat. But it is essential! If you like social media you may want to work on managing social media channels. This is another job to search VA groups or Social Media Manager groups on Facebook for!
- Do you have graphic design experience? If you do then you can offer services like logos, web design, or even designing business cards. For smaller jobs you can sign up on sites like fiverr and for larger jobs try networking in groups on Facebook. Don’t stop with just blogging groups you can also search small business groups in your area.
2. Teach English
Do you speak well? Then consider applying to teach English online. Many businesses use online teaching tools to teach second languages to their workers. Most trainers work 25-30 hours a week, but you can decide how little or much you would like to work. You can apply here.
3. Open an Etsy Shop
4. Resell on Ebay
Do you have things around your house that you can sell? Do your friends have things they would like you to list for them? You can also shop at places like garage sales, estate sales, thrift shops or auctions to resell. You can check out our series Project Resell to see items that we resell! I try to put on there how much we paid and how much it sold for. Also be sure to search completed listings on Ebay to get the current going rate.
5. After School Care
Do you have school age children? I know before I became a work at home mom, breaks and vacations were the worst! If you don’t have plans, see any parents need help with childcare. In the state we live in, most of the schools are switching to a more year around schedule. That means that our fall break went from 3 days to a week! And our spring break is 2 weeks. (It is 3 weeks if we don’t have any snow days!) That is a long time for parents who work full time to try to find help. Plus, it will give your child kids to play with and some money in your pocket!
