Happy Summer!!! Are you having a sun filled, pool soaked blast yet? I hope so!! Joshua was so busy running around catching Pokemon with his friends the other day that I honestly didn’t even get to see him much! I wanted to make something special for him and his friends but it had to meet my summer cooking requirements: easy, no oven, fun and of course, delicious! Normally the treats that fall into this category are no-bake desserts or ice cream and while we love all sweets in our house…I really didn’t want that.
The other day while I was at Meijer doing our regular grocery shopping, I saw that they had these baking mixes from Nestle Toll House. I walked by them once thinking “I don’t bake in the summer.” But when I was getting our gallon of milk I thought to myself, “You know what would go amazing with this milk? Brownies!” So back I went to the baking aisle. These aren’t just regular brownies. They are Butterfinger brownies! YUM! So ever since I bought the mix, I’ve been thinking about those brownies!
I could pull out the slow cooker, but ehh even that seems like too much work on this (super) lazy summer day. So I decided to try something a bit unconventional.
Waffle maker…meet brownies. Yes! Brownies in the waffle maker!!
And it worked y’all. 100% worked. And we had fresh, hot brownies in minutes and I didn’t even have to warm the house up.
Here is how we made them.
You will need:
- 1 Box of NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Brownies & More with Butterfingers
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 6 tbsp water
- Butterfinger Baking Bits
- Hot Fudge
- Vanilla Ice Cream
In a bowl, add the brownie mix, egg, oil and water and mix well.
There was a bag of Butterfinger pieces included in the kit. The box said for brownies to pour 2/3 of the bits in, but I added the whole bag. What? We love Butterfingers!
Spray your waffle iron with non-stick spray. Pour in your brownie mixture and cook. My waffle iron is one that you can flip from side to side, so I made sure to flip often. I cooked the first waffle for about 3 minutes on each side. The second waffle that I made, the iron was a little hotter than the first time so I cut back a bit on the cooking time.
Ta da! A waffle brownie! I think it would be fun to top the waffle like this and have a giant dessert for everyone to share, but I recently learned that some people don’t like caramel. WEIRD, I know! So since I wasn’t sure which kids liked caramel and which kids only wanted hot fudge, I decided to cut our brownie into four pieces.
This would be so much fun for a sleepover or birthday party too! Make the brownies, cut them into their pieces like above and have a build your own bar with toppings! I’m really loving the waffle brownie ideas!
A scoop of ice cream, caramel, hot fudge and some more Butterfinger pieces.
Pile it on high!
I think I’ve found a new summer obsession. Dinner in the slow cooker…Dessert in the waffle iron. In fact, I guarantee we will have waffle brownie bites again! :)
Next time you are at Meijer, look out for Nestle Toll House Baking Mixes! There are different flavors to choose from:
