Last week’s Mom Challenge was all about habits we wanted to pass on to our children. One of those habits that I wanted to pass on was living a healthy lifestyle. It got me thinking, honestly thinking, about the lifestyle choices that we make. Honestly, they can use some work. I hope you will join me in Creating Healthy Habits! Normally, I would dive right in and try to change 15 things at once. And fail. But this time, I’m going to make sure it gets done!
This week it is all about water! I wanted to start with something easy, to build up the motivation, you know? Um, it’s not as easy as I thought!
is was totally me)
Normally, I don’t drink very much. And I usually stick to Diet Coke. I have about 2 cans a day. And that’s it. So when I headed over to the hydration calculator to find out how much water I should be drinking I was shocked!! It’s a lot more than I am used to consuming! That goes to show you how much I know, I thought you were just supposed to drink 8 8 oz glasses a day!
Why should you drink water? Well, let me count the reasons.
1. It helps you lose weight and makes you feel full.
2. Your skin will thank you! radiant skin = hydrated skin.
3. It helps flush toxins out of your body.
4. Water aids in digestion.
5. Helps keep headaches, dizziness, muscle cramps and other ‘yucky’ feelings away.
6. Keeps you energized.
There are lots of other reasons to drink up, but basically it comes down to this. Drinking water is an easy way to benefit your health in a ton of different ways!!
Did I mention how much more frugal water is than buying soda??
2 cans a day * 365 days a year = 730 cans of soda each year!!
730 cans / 12 cans in a case = 61 cases of soda each year!!
61 cases of Diet Coke * $3.00 each (which is a sale price!) = $183 spent each year on soda
And that’s just for me! Multiply that by 2 for Andy and we spend about $1 a day on soda – $366 each year.
I admit, when I thought of the fact that so many people in this world don’t have access to clean water it made me feel a little guilty for not taking advantage of this luxury! We are beyond blessed to have clean water brought to our homes and to be able to purchase it at the store. It gets wasted at our house (faucets left on for too long, water glasses/bottles get left and end up being dumped out, etc) and to be honest we take it for granted. This is something I want to focus on this week! Not just about drinking more water myself but for bringing attention to how we can save water and help people get safe, clean drinking water! You can learn more at The Water Project!
This week’s challenge: Drink Water!! H2-O YES! :)
I’ll be checking in each day with how I do making the switch from soda to water and hopefully drinking enough! I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to show you and even some money saving tips on how to save on your water bill!
