An Introduction to Florida Wines with East Coast Winery

The first thing on our itinerary at Tuckaway Shores was a wine tasting. But this wasn’t any ordinary wine tasting. We also weren’t drinking ordinary wine. Here we were, in this beautiful Florida resort so it is only natural that we were there to discover Florida Wine. I was really excited to try these! I didn’t know Florida had wineries! It turns out that they do, but Florida wines are extra special. Most of the wines we tasted were grape-less. That’s right! Florida is home to so many great fruits so it is fitting.

Let’s start with my favorite wine of the evening. (A big thank you to East Coast Winery for introducing us to these great wines!)

Key Limen

If you asked me to name a food that Florida is famous for Key Lime Pie would definitely be one of my first answers. (Speaking of Key Lime Pie … we had the most amazing pie over at Rusty’s!) I don’t care if you are in the middle of a snow storm, one sip of this and you will immediately feel like you have escaped to a tropical beach.

If you like margaritas you will love this. This wine has won several awards including: Best of Show Gold Medal at the Florida State Fair, Double Gold at the Indiana International Wine Competition and the Epicot International Food and Wine Festival Selection in 2001, 2010 and 2011.

Hurricane Class 5

This was a close one. The Hurricane Class 5 was probably one of the best things I’ve tasted! I really loved it. I also can’t wait to order a bottle to have some again. This wine is a really awesome blend of different wines and different fruits to make the most amazing white sangria. This is uniquely Florida! Also an award winner, this wine has won Best of Show and Double Gold Florida State Fair as well as Best of Class & Concordance Gold at the Indiana International Wine Competition.

Florida wines are known for using a variety of fruits to create amazing flavors like Cocoa Beach which is a blend of orange juice and a rich dark chocolate syrup. Oh yes. It’s good. Coco Polada is a blend of coconut, orange and pineapple. Can you think of anything better?

There are so many different wines native to the state of Florida. Make sure to like East Coast Winery on Facebook and let them know if you would like to order any bottles of Florida Wine to have a little Florida sunshine at your home!

I’m not much of a wine connoisseur and only like a really, really sweet wine, but I would love to learn more about wines.
