Win 1 of 5 $50 Walmart Gift Cards + High Value Clean & Clear Coupon

“This is a sponsored giveaway with Mums the Word Network and Clean & Clear. All opinions are my own.”

1

When I was a pre-teen/teenager my face used to break out. I always remember saying to myself “I can’t wait until I get older so my face stops breaking out!”

Then, I got older.

And my face still breaks out! Luckily, it doesn’t do it as often or as severe, but still! I thought pimples were a faze. Something I would outgrow. I have learned a thing or two about skincare since I was 12 though (like toothpaste will not make your zit go away magically by the next morning!) One thing that I have learned is that in order to treat your skin, you have to understand your skin. For me, that means a few things.

clean and clear2

One, I need to exfoliate! I get those nasty blackheads. I know, gross right? I can feel those little bumps all across my nose and – eh, yuck! I use the Clean & Clear Blackhead Eraser Scrub (available at Walmart). It has multi-action beads and wow does it work! You can feel it exfoliate and clean, and the best part is that it can help you see fewer blackheads in just two days!

Clean-And-Clear-Morning-Burst-Facial-Cleanser

For my everyday cleaner, I use the Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Cleanser (available at Walmart). Y’all. I love this. You feel …. clean afterwards. It has these little bursting beads inside the cleanser and they are seriously amazing. My skin feels so good after I am done washing with this!

0038137003572_500X500

When I was younger I used to think that only dry skin needed moisturizer. Oh no! I moisturize everyday with the Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer (available at Walmart). And trust me, my skin thanks me! This moisturizer not only moisturizes your skin, but also will fight off breakouts! Awesome huh?

tumblr_m2ltcnJkeT1qdetvy

And on the rare occasion that a pimple slips through, I use the Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment (available at Walmart). This can reduce the appearance of pimples in only 4 hours! It’s a great thing to have in your skincare toolkit just in case!

Save $1.00

Clean & Clear makes tons of really great products! You can find them easily available at your local Walmart. Plus, you can print off a high value coupon (while supplies last!) from Walmart! Simply take a 4 question skin care quiz and print off your coupon! While you are there you can find skincare tips and watch some great inspirational videos!

AND….If that wasn’t enough, you can get entered to win one of five $50 Walmart gift cards! That’s a lot of Clean & Clear! 🙂 Enter below! Good luck!

Coconut Hair Mask

Coconut Hair Mask

The older I get the worse my hair seems to get! I don’t know why, but it gets dry and tangled really easily. My hair also sheds. A lot! It’s horrible. So I have been looking for ways to improve my hair’s condition. This is a really easy hair mask that I have made a few times and I really like it.

I will say that my hair is naturally greasy. Like there is no skipping hair washes for me! So this hair mask does make my hair greasy, but it’s SO worth it. My hair is soft and easy to brush for days! I also notice that I don’t shed as much. I try to do it once a week and I have noticed a big difference!

DIY Coconut Hair Mask Conditions Repairs and Protects

You only need 4 ingredients which is great! 🙂

– 3 tbsp All Natural Coconut Butter (You can also use coconut oil if you have that on hand)

– 2 tbsp Olive Oil

– 1 tbsp Gelatin – the one I use is amazing! You can find it here. It’s a BIG bottle, but it will be great for lots and lots of hair masks! 🙂

– 3 -4 drops of Lemon Essential Oil

You may also want a shower cap! My pink one I have was only about $3 and it shipped for free! You can get it here. 🙂

coconut hair mask repairs conditions protects

This recipe will make enough for one hair mask. I mix my hair mask in a plastic jar that I recycled. I have doubled the recipe and it has kept just fine in it.

Mix your hair mask and then put into your hair. Massage it into your scalp. The gelatin is full of protein so massage it into those roots! Let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then shower. Shampoo and condition as normal. The lemon essential oil will keep your hair from getting greasy and it will also prevent/help to fix dandruff. Plus, it smells good!

Admire your super soft hair! I repeat each week and I have been loving the results so far!

Fashion For Mom – The Summer To Fall Transition Outfit

Momma Gets Her Style Back

orignal outfit

This summer has been kind of odd around here. Now, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it has been feeling like early fall around here. It’s been in the low 80’s/upper 70’s and at night you need a sweatshirt! While some days I would love to head to the pool, I really can’t complain about this weather! (I’m sure in a few days it will be hot and humid!) Which has me thinking, I need to come up with a few transition outfits. You know, ones that are perfect to wear during the day when it’s warm and just throw on a cardigan and you are good for chilly nights.

I found this outfit on Pinterest and when I clicked on it, I got nowhere. I HATE that. Those boots! That bag. I NEED them in my life. Unfortunately, they are probably out of my budget. But don’t worry – I found some really awesome pieces that are inspired by the original outfit that are really awesome!

tank

I love this lace tank top! I love the price of it too! Right now it is on sale for $19.99! (Available here!) It’s also the same price for plus size! (Available here!)

tank2

Alright so there are some similarites and some distinct differences between this tank and the original. But OH MY GOSH. LOVE!!! First the similarities. The buttons down the front, the lace and of course, it’s a tank. The differences are the color, the length and the mid-section. I think that this would be really flattering on and add a cardigan and some leggings and you have a really versatile piece for your closet! This is from Modcloth and is $47.99. Get it here!

jeans

Have you ever searched Amazon for jeans? You might be surprised! These skinny jeans are from Tommy Hilfiger and 50% off the retail suggested price! That’s right – $24.99! (Get it here!)

boots

Let’s be honest. The original boots are nothing short of amazing. Seriously, they are gorgeous! I have no clue where they are from, but something tells me with the amount of detail in them that they are slightly (or very much so!) out of my budget. These boots from DSW are great though. They have lots of detail, will go with everything, have awesome color and are priced right! With a retail price of $89, the DSW price is $69.95. (Get them here!)

earrings

These earrings are the perfect earthy accessory! I think they will work awesome for tons of outfits and especially all fall long! They are $10.95 and ship for free on Amazon. (Get them here!)

tortoise glasses

I love the retro look of these tortoise glasses! I REALLY love the fact that they are $5.50 and ship for free from Amazon! I have a horrible habit of losing my glasses! (Get them here!)

watch

I think that this watch by Anne Klein is gorgeous! It’s really classic and perfect for any collection. It’s $42.14 on Amazon which is a great price on a piece that you will be able to wear over and over! (Get it here!)

handbag

The original handbag was another thing I was gushing over in the original outfit. But this bag from Rimen & Co is really great! It’s spacious and has those awesome gold accents which will look awesome with our other accessories! I found this at T.J.Maxx with a price of $34.99. It retails for $65! (Get it here!)

purse

Outfit

You can get this outfit for as low as $208.52! That includes everything! And this is full of pieces that are perfect for a classic wardrobe – ready to be mixed, layered and worn many, many times!

5 Things To Do For Yourself…This Week!

5 things to do for yourself this week

Sometimes I think that I forget that I exist. No, I don’t forget that I am here. But I am so wrapped up in being a mom, daughter, sister, wife, volunteer, neighbor, cook, photographer, business woman, and every other title that I have that sometimes I feel as though it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. I think that it is that way for a lot of us! But it is so important to take care of yourself and to have ‘you time’ (without the guilt!)

Here are 10 things you can do for yourself this week!

1. Go To Bed Earlier

We’ve all been there. You are staying up so you can fold that last load of laundry (ok, so you can finish The Bachelor, but you really are going to fold that last load of laundry!) Or maybe you are trying to get some extra work done before going back to the office tomorrow. Whatever is keeping you up at night, this week, forget it! It will be there tomorrow.

Head to bed an hour early. Trust me, your body (and mind!) will thank you!

2. Spend Some Time Outside

Taking just 15 minutes to just be outside can make a big difference! Whether you go for a walk, sit outside and read, go for a bike ride or heck, even work outside! Getting fresh air and sunshine will help boost your mood, relieve stress, and not to mention, the perfect motivation to get in some more activity into your day.

3. Give 2 Meaningful Comments Each Day

Everyone loves a compliment. It makes us smile. Puts a little pep in our step. And most importantly, makes us feel good. Make it a priority to give two meaningful compliments each day!

Why two? Well, because one is to give to someone else and one is to give yourself. That’s right. Give yourself a break and make sure you give yourself the compliment of “Great hair!”, “Awesome job shaving a minute of your mile today!” or “Way to go! You crossed off your whole to do list today!”

You rock! You deserve it!

4. Eliminate Negativity

The world is full of negativity! All of the criticism can take a toll and can begin to affect your mood without you even realizing it! Take steps in avoiding negativity in your life.

– We all have that person on Facebook. You know, the one who never has anything good to say. About anything. They complain non-stop and usually, the world is out to get them. Maybe they post things that you don’t believe in or agree with. Whatever it is. Delete them! Are you obligated to be ‘friends’ with them? There is this little trick of hiding someone’s messages. Trust me. You would never think that such a little thing would make a difference, but not having to read Negative Nancy all the time just makes things better!

– Is there a Gossip Group at work? Instead of joining in (even if you are just there listening!) start hanging out at another water cooler at work! Surround yourself with positive and happy people and your life will become more positive.

– Do you catch yourself being negative? Make a conscious effort to come up with a positive thought for every negative thought that comes to mind. Eventually you will train your brain to think positively!

5. Tackle a Project You Have Been Putting Off

We all have projects that we put off. Sometimes they are big projects. Sometimes they are just a pain in the butt. Sometimes they are quick and easy and when we finally get them done we wonder why it took us so long.

This week, tackle that junk drawer, clean out the refrigerator, organize those receipts or whatever you have been putting off. By crossing items off your to do list will feel good!

5 Things to do for yourself this week

Remember, this is your week. Take charge of it and do something for yourself! Even if it is something small!

So when I saw this outfit on Wishlist123’s Polyvore on Pinterest I knew that I had to recreate it! Unfortunately, the original skirt and tank top couldn’t be found (along with their prices), but the before price for this outfit was $221.53. Not bad. Not great. But we’ve seen far worse! 😉

The Skirt:

Fashion for Moms - Summer Outfits Fashion on a Budget Navy Chevron Maxi Skirt

The original skirt is from a post that Jen from Tatertots & Jello posted a few years ago. Her link was to a store called John Lewis (a UK company) and it has since sold out. I don’t know about the original price.

BUT if this is not the exact same skirt it’s a SUPER DUPER close one! It’s from Amazon! It’s $68, which is more than I usually post things for, but I think it’s worth it! The color is great and I love the small stripes! I think that you will get tons of wear out of this! (Get it here!)

The Handbag:

Fashion For Mom - Summer Outfit - Fashion on a Budget

The original bag is the Anna Field Tote Bag. This seems to be a bag and brand available in the UK. The original was from Zalando and was $42. (Now sold out.)

The inspired by bag…I know is totally different. But I think I fell in love with it! It IS about the same size and DOES have stripes! 🙂 Plus, you guys, it’s only $11.88 and ships for FREE! (Get it here!)

The Shoes:

Fashion For Mom - Summer Outfit - Fashion on a Budget

I really liked the original shoes (Steve Madden) from Lord and Taylor! They were $79 and you guessed it, sold out.

I chose to get a smaller wedge heel (because I would break my neck in the others….probably while tripping over my maxi skirt!) I love the rope design on this pair of Mootsies Tootsies from Shoe Carnival! They are $39.98, but use the code SHOES10 and you should get an additional $10 off bringing them down to just $29.98! (Get them here!)

The Extras:

Simple Skincare #KindToCitySkin Review & Giveaway

Simple Skincare Giveaway

When Simple Skincare contacted me and asked me if I knew about their #KindToCitySkin campaign I told them I was clueless. Well I was also clueless about skincare! And apparently, I’m not alone!

“From grit and grime to dirt and drama, city living can make all skin sensitive. That is why Simple Skincare, a range of facial products that are sensitive to skin’s needs, is launching “Kind to City Skin” – a global initiative designed to help women understand the impact of city living – both environmental and lifestyle-related factors – can have on their faces. While most women are already aware of skin-irritating behaviors to avoid, such as excessive sun exposure or a diet rich in salty foods, a new survey* reveals a surprising truth – that women in the top 40 cities nationwide don’t realize the wear and tear their everyday lifestyle may be having on the health and appearance of their skin. Nearly 9 in 10 (89%) of women describe their skincare habits as “healthy” yet their actual behaviors (see below) show there is room for improvement.”

Right?

Want to know what they found out?

  • A Surprising Cleansing Calendar – More than a quarter (27%) report that the longest they’ve gone without washing their face is at least two days. Simple® makes implementing a cleansing regimen a cinch with gentle yet effective facial cleansers and wipes to remove grime and dirt that can clog pores and cause irritation.

  • Being Attentive to the Elements – Fifty-nine percent (59%) are not actively trying to protect skin from environmental elements such as the sun or wind. Women can apply Simple® Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 to help them prevent damage from sunburn (even on cloudy days).

  • A Serving of Glowing Skin – Though half (50%) claim they’re striving for a healthy diet specifically to keep skin in good shape, thousands of women are missing out on certain foods that could work wonders on skin, such as Brussels sprouts (68%), walnuts (62%), salmon (57%) and avocados (56%).

Simple Skincare Kind To City Skin

  • The (Skin) Effects of Stress – Sixty-three percent (63%) know that their stress level affects the health of their skin, yet more than half (53%) are not actively trying to reduce it right now. Making a dedicated effort to unplug and unwind can make skin less permeable to external factors like weather and makeup.

  • The Beauty Benefits of Working Out – One in two (50%) are unaware that exercise can influence their skin’s health. Exercise increases blood flow and helps flush cellular debris out of one’s system – contributing to the overall appearance of skin.

  • Simple® also uncovered which major markets are ahead of the curve when it comes to holistic skincare habits.

  • The majority (52%) of women in San Francisco are trying to eat skin-loving food that is organic, produced locally, or farm-to-table.

  • More than 6 in 10 (63%) women in Hartford (CT) are trying to limit the amount of time they spend using electronic devices.

  • It is most common for women in Grand Rapids (33%) and Detroit (32%) to ride bikes on at least a monthly basis.

Simple Skincare Kind To City Skin

Alright, I don’t pretend that I have good skin habits. In fact – I’m super lucky that I have as good of skin as I do! But the older I get the more I realize that I need to start taking care of my skin because, well, let’s face it. There were a lot of things I could do when I was younger and get away with! Avoiding a skincare regimen is NOT one of those things I can – or should!- avoid.

I have been absolutely loving the Simple Skincare products! The foaming cleanser leaves my face feeling clean and not dried out. The moisturizer keeps my face hydrated without getting oily. And at night, those wipes! I can easily wash my face and take off my eye makeup (no more raccoon eyes in the morning from my mascara! Does this happen to anyone else? You think you get it all and then…surprise!!) And the night cream leaves my face feeling refreshed and young. (Ok, well it’s helping with those awful under eye circles I get. Again, hello raccoon eyes..)

But my favorite part?

Simple Skincare Kind To City Skin Giveaway

No harsh chemicals, artificial perfumes or dyes! Just good for your skin stuff. 🙂

And you can enter to win a prize pack from Simple Skincare! One lucky reader will win a bundle containing:
