Minecraft Bedroom Decorating Ideas

If you remember a while ago, we did a post about Minecraft bedroom decorating ideas. And it turns out…there are a lot of people out there looking for Minecraft room inspiration! It’s one of our most popular posts! So, we’ve done it again! Here is another set of Minecraft bedroom ideas. And later this week, we’ve got one more round of Minecraft room ideas! YAY!

(PS. You can find the original Minecraft Bedroom Ideas post here!)

Minecraft bedroom ideas

What I love about this Minecraft Bedroom:

I love that not everything is green! I know when people traditionally think of Minecraft, they think lots of green and while this definitely does have lots of green it also has a good balance of blues.

I also love that this Minecraft bedroom isn’t so young. While it’s great for young kids, it’s also totally cool for them to have for years to come.

And one of my favorite things is: STORAGE!!! Kids need storage. This room with the cubbies and the storage ottoman, have you covered. To be honest, this is a bit of a basic room and totally easy to create, but it’s really inexpensive details that pull it together to make it cool. Plus those ‘details’ double as fun toys. Win- win!

The bed:

Before we get to that totally amazing bedding, let’s talk headboard. Or lack thereof. For this room we decided to skip the headboard and frame the bed with some fun Minecraft toys. It’s fun and totally functional way to dress up the wall!

axeMinecraft Bedroom Decorating Ideas

We used the foam axe and foam blue sword.

Total cost: $19.24

(TIP: Hang these on the wall with Command Strips!)

bedding

How amazing is this duvet cover? If this doesn’t say Minecraft, I don’t know what else will!

The twin size duvet is $127, but if you sign up for Cafe Press’ emails you should get a code for 25% off your first purchase.

We are big fans of duvets at our house. We have them on all of our beds.

blanket

But, if that is a little more than you want to spend, there is a fleece blanket version of this available for only $42.95.

sheets

Match with some green sheets and I think that this would make for a great bedding set!

pillowcase

There is even a pixel pillowcase!

Total Cost:

Duvet: $127.99 (less with coupon code)

Fleece blanket + Sheets + Pillowcase: $75.26

The furniture:

nightstand

This nightstand is perfect. Kids grow out of their rooms and this will seamlessly be able to fit into their next room whether it is going from Minecraft to basketball or carting it off to their college dorm. The door on the front keeps kid’s uh, mess, out of sight. Oh, and it’s less than $50. Total score.

Minecraft Bedroom Decorating Ideas

I’m a huge fan of cubby shelves for kids. They are inexpensive and perfect for holding all kinds of treasures. And for a Minecraft room, they are even better because it’s all about the square! 🙂

bins

These green bins are perfect for your cubby shelf. All 6 are less than $18!

lamp

We actually have this lamp in Joshua’s room right now! His room is filled with all kinds of video game things and his lamp is no exception! We stop in our local thrift store all the time and if we find any small video game figurines we drop them in. It’s beginning to fill up and it’s a cool piece in his room. For this room, I would fill it with Minecraft figurines or Lego pieces! I think that it would be so cool to have filled with different shades of green Lego’s! (Hint: Check Ebay!)

Minecraft Bedroom Decorating Ideas

We included this pixel clock in our original Minecraft Bedroom Ideas post and I think it is the most purchased item we have EVER put on our site! It’s super cool and only about $20!

ottoman

The top of the ottoman comes off for storage making this a must have in a kid’s room! Store books, toys, games, controllers, etc. Plus, it makes for great extra seating for friends to come over!

This ottoman is $64.99 and will ship for free. We also found one very similar on Amazon for $59. (It also ships free with Amazon Prime.) I like the one on Amazon because I can see the awesome reviews! 🙂

rug

This rug will add a pop of color to the room! It has great reviews and is under $40!

Total cost for all furniture: $316.34

The Decorations:

plush

We used several plush items in this room. And there are tons more that we didn’t use.

See all of the Minecraft plush here.

sticker

For less than $7 this Minecraft vinyl wall hanging makes a big statement!

Minecraft Bedroom Decorating Ideas

These pixel Minecraft wall torches are so cool. Hang them on the wall (they really light up!) for a fun and totally wow decoration. Place one on either side of the bed or window. Maybe you will put one by the door. Or maybe a trio of torches above the dresser. However you put them, this will be one of your favorite parts of the room!

toys toys2 toys3

Toys make for some great decorations. Plus, they are toys so kids can play with them.

Total cost of decorations: $89.82

While I was searching Pinterest I kept seeing things about KonMarie. She’s a guru y’all. That’s what I learned. (Look her up on YouTube!) Then I saw this pin and I was all “Ohhhh pretttttyy….” Right?

The blogger behind Productive and Pretty (awesome name by the way) is a fan of the KonMarie methods and when I saw her hack the only thing I could think of was…..This is the Sheldon Cooper method!

Josh and I love this show and when I saw this episode I remember thinking “Oh I got to get one of those!” and I had totally forgotten about it. So when I saw her post and she was using one of these shirt folders and her drawers looked like that….I knew it was an absolute must!

Her whole blog is great though and she has lots of great organizing posts. You have to check it out!

5 Times You Should Be Renting Furniture Instead Of Buying

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of CORT for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

We all love a pretty home. Heck, I confess that I subscribe to some home decor catalogs just to look at the beautiful design. When it comes to my own home, well, I try. I do my best, but it doesn’t look like the catalogs. But the older I get, the more it comes along; it’s evolved and most certainly has changed a lot! 5 TIMES One thing that I have learned over the years is something simple: furniture rental. YES. Did you even know it was a thing? It is and it’s totally awesome. Why is it awesome? Who is it awesome for? Here are some ideas for you to find out if furniture rental is for you!

1. You are a student.

Many students start off in their dorm rooms for at least the first year. But then, it’s time for roommates and your first shared apartment. You realize that you can get rid of that loft bed and beanbag that you called bedroom furniture. So while hunting for furniture you quickly realize that you can get cheap furniture that doesn’t last and is uncomfortable or you can get expensive furniture. Oh wait, no you can’t get expensive furniture. Your budget isn’t ready for that. And while there are some super cute furniture re-do’s of curbside trash to treasure….who has time! Renting a bedroom set is a great alternative. You get great quality and get beautiful furniture. Life is changing! Maybe you will be in this apartment until you graduate, maybe not. Don’t mess with moving stuff – rent it and get it moved for you! But you won’t just need a bedroom set. Go in with your friends and choose a living room you all love. CORT has great packages available starting at $119 for a student package (bedroom, living room and dining room!) That’s only $40 a month per room! (Don’t forget to split the cost of the living room and dining room with your roommates!) living room

2. You Are On Your Own…For The First Time

Your first time on your own is even more exciting than moving out of your dorm. But, stocking it can be a nightmare. You need dishes, and brooms, and TV’s and towels….and the list really never ends. If you are still a student, take advantage of that $119 package from CORT Furniture Rental, but add their household package ($64) and get a complete kitchen – dishes, cookware, etc as well as a complete bathroom with towels, shower curtain, trash can as well as sheets and all of the fittings for your bedroom. That’s totally worth the $64!! You can even add a TV and TV stand. Don’t max out your credit cards or waste money buying junky items that you will just have to replace soon anyways. Rent their package and be able to buy what you want and the quality you want at your own pace. bedroom

3. You Are In The Military

While I don’t have any personal experience with being in the military, I have friends that do. And boy, they move a lot! My friend Elizabeth and her family moved several times over the past few years with their last move going from Alaska to North Carolina. Can you imagine? That’s a BIG move!! If you rented with CORT you don’t have to worry about packing or shipping (or ugh, having to sell everything you own) when you get the next assignment. CORT loves to work with military members and if you move, get deployed, get discharged, etc they will simply let you out of your contract. Easy.

4. You Have A Life Change

Whether you get divorced, have a parent (or adult child) move in with you or are hosting an exchange student – life happens. With life changes, the last thing you need to be thinking about is buying furniture or the costs associated with it. Need to turn that office into a bedroom for a few months? No problem. Did you split the furniture in your divorce and now you need a living room set? Got you covered! CORT is here to help! You have plenty of other things to worry about. Don’t stress over furniture! dining room

5. You Are Like Me & Change Your Mind

My style is still evolving. I bought my living room set last year and I already want to change it out. But my living room is open to my dining room so if I change one room then I really need to change both rooms. And I would love new bedroom furniture. Sound familiar? If you like to decorate and redecorate try renting your furniture! CORT has adorable furniture available perfect for your design ideas. And in a year, when you change your mind, no problem!

Can you think of another occasion where it would be better to rent furniture instead of buying it?

All photos are examples of furniture that CORT has available.

Pottery Barn Inspired Living Room: Get the Look For Less

Pottery Barn Inspired Living Room

I love getting catalogs in the mail. Do you remember when you were little and the toy catalogs would come before Christmas? I would circle the cool toys that I wanted and hoped for. Plus, everything new that I found that I didn’t even know that I wanted!

Many years later, I still get excited when catalogs get delivered. Flipping through dreaming of stocking my closet, redecorating our home, or cruises to take. And while I may not circle everything in them anymore, I do keep the catalogs around for longer than I should. And I keep my eyes open for look alike pieces that I can use to recreate the looks in my budget.

Pottery Barn Inspired Living Room ORIGINAL

This living room is from Pottery Barn. Their website is just as full of inspiration as their catalogs! I love the neutral colors with the pop of patterns (and color) on the pillow.

Pottery Barn Inspired Living Room

I’m a big fan of splurging on things, but I also know I need to create things in my budget. Here are some great look alike pieces that we used to recreate the look.

The Sofa:

The original sofa from Pottery Barn is available in many colors and looks like you could just sink into it. But with a price tag of $2,299 (and living in a house with kids and dogs) it’s not in my budget. This Baxton Studio Leather Sectional Sofa has good reviews, ships for free and has the same shape that this room is looking for! Plus, it’s $888.38.

The Tables:

I love the look of the Tanner Cube Tables. They have a classic look, slightly industrial, clean lines and it will never go out of style. The end tables are $259 from Pottery Barn, but I found these Southern Enterprises Metal Frame End Tables from Target for just $66.99.

The Sofa table is also from Southern Enterprises at Target! It is only $129.99.

The Lamp:

I really love the Emery Floor Lamp from Pottery Barn. Originally $499, it’s on sale for $399. Luckily I found this Illuminada Glass Ball Floor Lamp that is half of that!

The Rug:

This Nate Berkus (LOVE him) Diamond Area rug from Target is a great neutral and will add a fantastic layer and awesome texture to your room!

Pottery Barn Inspired Living Room ORIGINAL

The Pillows:

Ask my friends and they will tell you that I am a sucker for two things when it comes to shopping for our house: pillows and blankets. I think both items can completely change the look of your room! Don’t be shy: Colors don’t have to match, mix up the textures and fabrics, and patterns.

The Details:

A room isn’t complete without some decorative accessories.

12 Things To Fill A Lamp With – Decorating Ideas

fill a lamp

Recently we moved and I have been busy decorating our new home. Everything is getting a makeover. One thing that I recently bought was a fillable lamp for Joshua’s room. Well, I originally purchased it for my living room, but it’s found a new home in Josh’s room. I love it so much I’m thinking of still getting another one for the living room and a pair for my bedroom. At first I thought that many of the same style lamps could be too much, but with so many different ways to decorate with them no to lamps will look the same!

You can buy your own fill-able lamp here. You can also make your own lamp with a kit. It’s easy to do and you can use any bottle or jar!

Here are some ideas that you can use to fill your lamps.

Isn’t this seashell lamp just gorgeous? I really like how the lamp base has a blue tint to it (like the ocean!) and the seashell lamp shade helps pull everything together. What a great memento to collect shells and sands from your travels! Or you can purchase shells inexpensively online.

This may be one of the sweetest ideas I’ve seen. Have a young artist? Then this DIY is for you (both)! You will just need a white lamp shade and fabric markers or crayons.

This is a look that I could definitely see myself using in my own home. You could use succulents, driftwood, plants, moss or anything else you find on your nature walks.

Have a sewing or craft room? This spools are a great way to display your hobby and it is a great way to add a little dash of color!

Hint: You don’t need to buy all new spools of thread. You can purchase a pack of empty spools and just wrap a bit of thread that you have around to make them look full.

(Idea and photo from Young House Love.)

I love this idea. The one on the left is similar to what we are doing in Josh’s room! (For Josh’s lamp we are filling it with video game characters and figurines!) Fill a lamp for your kid’s room or play room with small toys, race cars, or characters.

I think that this is such a fun idea. Fill your lamp with mementos from your wedding! She filled it with things like her ring box, invitation, things from her bouquet, etc. This is such a unique way to display items for your special day.

One of the best things about fillable vases is that you can change what goes in them, even for the holidays. How pretty is this ornament display?

How To Organize and Protect Your Ornaments

Every year, our living room gets transformed into a beautiful winter wonderland. Snowmen get put out, Santas get displayed, and stockings are hung. But one of my favorite decorations we have is our tree. Every year we get a real tree so the whole living room smells so …. wintery.

Then, we add our decorations and ornaments. Our tree is full of symbolic ornaments. We have some that were made with little hands that are really special. Some are from vacations and trips that we have taken, Some are unique to different members of our family showing their hobbies and interests.

Each ornament is special. It’s fun to open up the box of ornaments and with each ornament that gets taken out, memories begin to come back.

Keeping our ornaments safe until next year is important to me. The last thing I want, is to open up or tote and box of ornaments and to find one that broke in storage.

Luckily, Hefty makes keeping your ornaments safe and organized easy!

How to Organize and Protect Your Ornaments

For our more bulky ornaments (like Santa!) I use the Hefty bowls. Just place your ornament in one bowl, and tape another bowl to the top. Easy!

How to Organize and Protect Your Ornaments

For our small ornaments, Hefty makes the perfect size storage containers. They are called Mini Me Cups. We drop our smaller ornaments inside a cup and then tape another cup to the top.

bear12

For taller ornaments like our circus bear, we use the regular size Hefty cups. Like the mini me cups, I just taped another cup on top.

How to Organize and Protect Your Ornaments

We have several ornaments that are large, and a little flatter. That’s when the Hefty plates come in handy.

How to Organize and Protect Your Ornaments

I trust Hefty to keep safe our ornaments. Even special ones like these baby shoes. Or salt dough ornaments from over 20 years ago.

I know that when we open them up next year they will be safe and sound.

Plus, the Hefty containers stack so nicely in the boxes making for an organized way to put away your Christmas decorations!

We have definitely created #HeftyHolidays in our house!
