Disney Princess Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Disney Princess Bedroom Decorating Ideas

It’s no secret that I love Disney. It’s one of those things that I don’t think you can ever outgrow. Our bedroom idea posts have been really popular in the past (thank you!), but usually we focus more on rooms for boys. Not intentionally! I think it’s because as the mom of a boy, it’s just what I do. So I wanted to come up with some ideas for girl’s rooms. This little project was SO much fun! Moms to girls….some days I’m a tad jealous.

Here are 5 rooms based on classic Disney princesses. Everything can be found on Amazon – which means free shipping for Prime members (Not a Prime member? Get a free trial here!) or on orders over $35. Love our Disney rooms? Let us know which one we should do next!

This Snow White bedroom is about as sweet as you can get. I love the look of the different colored sheets, blankets and pillow cases!

Setting Up A Command Center To Get Organized

A command center is a great way to get and stay organized. It’s a place where the entire family can share information on schedules, meal plans, important papers, and more. Many times command centers are set up in a kitchen, mudroom or near the door that your family uses the most. Having your command center in a high traffic area is a good idea because that is where book bags are dropped off, keys are kept and a place that family members can quickly and easily see the information on their way out the door.

Setting up a command center to get organized

Setting up a command center to get organized is a great first step that can make a huge impact for you and your family! If you are trying to live a more organized life, a command center is a vital first step!

What Can I Use To Create My Command Center?

This unit is a great start for your command center! There are plenty of places to give your papers a well organized place ensuring you won’t lose anything or forget something! You can divide them up how you wish, but some ideas include:

  • Incoming mail
  • Outgoing mail
  • Each person can have their own ‘mailbox’
  • Bills
  • Papers that need filing
  • Printed recipes that you plan on using this week

The center chalkboard is perfect for writing notes to your family or things like grocery lists!

Every command center needs a calendar! Or two! 🙂 There are chalkboard calendars or white boards – whichever your preference! I personally like to have two calendars: one for my family and one for planning out our dinners. One way to help keep your calendar organized is to assign each member of the family a color when writing in their activities.

Baskets are essential for keeping things organized! These are great for things like library books that need to go back.

These shelves are perfect for not only being a shelf for a bulletin board, adding cups to hold your markers, or just for decorating to make your own. The cubbies inside are perfect for adding baskets to hold things like baseball mitts, scarves or mittens and the hooks will keep coats and leashes ready to go.

Command Center Inspiration

Need some inspiration for setting your command center up? Here are some great setups from some awesome bloggers!

This is from Pottery Barn. While it’s beautiful, it’s also way out of my price range! Luckily, Amazon has more affordable pieces that you can recreate this with!

You don’t need a huge wall to create your command center. Get the details on this kitchen command center here!

This command center is great for giving each person their own space.

This command center is from Pottery Barn as well. Isn’t it gorgeous?

Hobby Lobby created this gorgeous and comforting command center to organize your home.

I love the chalkboard wall that this family utilizes in their command center design.

Your command centers don’t have to be huge or extravagant. They just have to fit your family and your family’s needs. This is a great command center that is in a small space but keeps everyone on track.

Choosing The Right Planner For The New Year

Are you planning on 2017 to be your year of finally getting (and staying!) organized? I don’t know about you, but I thrive on order. I love lists. A lot. I like to have my house looking just so. I need a schedule.

Finding the Perfect Planner For The New Year

One of the ways that I keep (or attempt to keep) everything together is with my planner. But there are different planners for different people. So, what are they? Which one will work best for you? Here are a few great options to help you decide!

(PS! Have you seen our organizing challenge for 2017? You will want to follow along! Each day has a small way that you can get yourself organized and prepared all year long!)

Paper Planners

I am 100% a pen and paper kind of lady. And stickers. And washi tape. 🙂

Finding the Perfect Planner For The New Year

This is my planner. It’s from Erin Condren and I love it. It’s a great size and has plenty of room for my monthly calendar of events as well as more detailed weekly notes. And it’s pretty. Super pretty. There are plenty of accessories as well: stickers, snap ins, bands, notes, dividers, pens, etc.

The only drawback to my EC planner is that it is a little pricey. But, if you think of the fact that it gets daily use then that price isn’t bad. I like to call mine an investment.

Finding the Perfect Planner For The New Year

A friend of mine introduced me to The Happy Planner. It’s very similar to Erin Condren planners, but not as expensive. They also have a ton of stickers and customizing items so no matter if you choose an EC or THP – they are a great solution!

Another option that has come highly recommended to me is Plum Paper. I really like how when you make your planner you can add sections like a blogging section or a sales section (perfect for people who sell things like LuLaRoe!) There are also sections for baby (tracking growth/milestones), wedding, and SO many more options! The price of this planner is midway between The Happy Planner and EC, with amazing details and quality!

Finding the Perfect Planner For The New Year

If you are a lister then you might really love this option. It’s the Panda Planner. And I think I’m obsessed. After this year with my EC I may opt to try the Panda Planner. I told you I’m into lists so this set up just makes me happy. There are monthly, weekly and daily set ups with room to have everything written down. (There is a larger version available of the Panda Planner if you write big like me!) 🙂 I love that it also focuses on the positive!

Finding the Perfect Planner For The New Year

Do you want a paper planner but not into all of the artsy, cutesy stickers? Or maybe you are super artsy and want to have space to doodle and paint. Maybe you like the simplicity. Whatever your reason, a bullet journal might be the solution for you. Right now bullet journals are super popular. Some people use them for keeping a list of their to do’s. (I love the key above!)

Some bullet journals are just that – journals, as opposed to planners. Some are extravagant with art, and color and calligraphy. Others are minimal and simple. Both are beautiful!

Digital Planners

If you are looking for an app that you can use to help plan your days here are a few that you may want to try!

  • Planner Pro
  • Fantastical 2
  • Todoist
  • Calendar 5

And don’t forget that Siri can schedule things on your phone calendar for you as well!

DIY No Sew Dog Bed

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CarpetProtect #CollectiveBias

easy-no-sew-dog-bed

George is definitely the definition of a spoiled dog. He loves his toys, being held, lots of snacks and a warm place to snuggle. We have several dog beds around the house, but usually I purchase (or DIY!) beds that are big enough for both Lincoln and George to snuggle up on together. But today is all about George. A bed all of his own. Which works out perfectly because he needs a bath today so I’m glad I was able to bribe him with a new bed first! 😉

This bed seriously took only about 15 minutes to make and came together for only about $10! I was able to pick everything up at Target while I was getting a few other things.

dog-bed-15

Like STAINMASTER® Carpet Pet Stain Remover!

dog-bed-13

You can find it in the cleaning department with the other carpet cleaners at Target. (I got mine at the Fishers, Indiana Target store!) It’s not available at all locations (but is online with free shipping to your local store!) You can check to be sure that it is available at your local Target store here. (You can find a cartwheel savings offer here!)

dog-bed-2

While I love George… a lot, but accidents happen. He’s got a little bladder! If we are gone for a long time during the day, we may come home to a surprise. STAINMASTER® Carpet Pet Stain Remover makes it easy to get tough stains out! It also has ODOR REMOVE™ technology which means not only is the stain out, but the smell. Not only does it clean and protect, but also repels dirt. It leaves kind of an invisible shield on your carpet to protect it and make it easier to clean. Bonus: There’s no sticky residue! (You can also use it for non-pet stains like coffee or soil. It’s been a total life saver!)

dog-bed-6

While you are at Target picking up your STAINMASTER® Carpet Pet Stain Remover, you will need to pick up a plush pillow (Target had them for $4!), a pillow protector, and a nice soft fleece blanket. I got mine at the Dollar Bins at Target for $3! WOO HOO!

dog-bed-7

First, you will need put the pillow into the pillow protector. This just helps it stay clean. Then, lay out your blanket on your table and place the pillow near the edge.

dog-bed-9

Fold the blanket over the pillow to cover. It was a little bit of a tight fit for my blanket and pillow, but that’s ok – don’t worry! I also trimmed about 2 inches from each side.

dog-bed-10

Start on the shorter ends and cut small slits on both the top and bottom layers.

dog-bed11

Take one upper layer and one lower layer and tie together. Double knot!

dog-bed-12

Continue tying around the edges. I find it easier to round the corner and then stop and start on the other short end. That makes it easy to meet both sides in the middle evenly.

dog-bed

Ta da! It’s the perfect size for a small dog like George.

dog-bed-5

He has his own throne to rule on.

dog-bed-4

Or to nap on.

Free Printable Conversation Cards For Kids

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone #KidfreshToTheRescue #CollectiveBias

Life is so busy, but during the holidays especially it seems like it’s on overdrive. As a busy mom, I’m always looking for a few shortcuts that I can take during the day to be able to not only get more things checked off my to do list, but also so that I can make the time count more with my family!

photo-nov-13-4-06-06-pm

And sometimes that means that I pick up a few frozen meals to keep on hand for quick lunches, dinners or even as a snack. That’s why I’m really excited to introduce you to Kidfresh!

photo-nov-13-4-05-27-pm

Have you heard of them before? Kidfresh is new to Walmart and you can find them in the frozen food section.

dsc_0430

Three reasons their foods are super awesome:

1) Hidden Veggies + Best in Kids Nutrition

2) Convenience + Relief for Busy Moms

3) Trust and Credibility

First of all they are full of high quality ingredients that I am a HUGE fan of! I opened up the Kidfresh Wagon Wheels Mac + Cheese and I actually said “Oh look there is cheese!” All Kidfresh meals and sides are made with No Artificial Flavors or Ingredients, No Synthetic colors or flavors and non-GMO ingredients with short and clean ingredient lists. That is super important to me! And do you know what else is super awesome? Each meal contains 1/2 a cup of hidden veggies!

dsc_0437

You would think that such a high quality meal would be expensive, but they are a great value ranging from $2.99 – $3.99. Inexpensive and the can be done in less than 4 minutes! Score! Did I mention that my son DEVOURED them up! Oh my gosh, I honestly don’t think I’ve seen him eat anything so fast. I asked him if he liked it and he said “Yes. You should buy some more of these.” And I smiled, said sure and laughed to myself… “You just ate cauliflower!” 😉 Mom win for the day! I love finding new trustworthy brands that I feel good about feeding to my family.

dsc_0434

While I may get busy and skip out on cooking complicated meals sometimes, one thing that I don’t ever skip out on is dinner conversation! I think that the dinner table is a great place to connect with my son (no phones allowed at our house!) and bond. We have a basket that sits on our table and it’s filled with fun things like trivia questions and I’m always adding to it.

conversation-cards

One thing that we have found to be fun are conversation cards. These are filled with fun questions like, “If you were a video game character who would you be?” and “If you were to create an invention, what would it do?” You can ask just one each night and share around the table, really getting into some awesome ideas or conduct family interviews and let each person pick a card to ask one person. However you decide to use the cards, I think you will really love the conversations that follow!

questions-1 questions-2

Just simply save the images to your computer and print! I printed ours on card stock at our local copy store.

While you are at Walmart checking out Kidfresh be sure to take advantage of savings opportunities from Ibotta (for your mobile devices!) or a printable coupon here!

Pokemon Bedroom Ideas On A Budget

Pokemon Bedroom Ideas On A Budget

Pokemon Go is still very much a thing in our house. It must be that way at lots of your homes too. In fact, we are beginning to get requests for Pokemon bedroom ideas! (I love getting requests! Do you have an idea? Let us know!)

So today I’m sharing a Pokemon bedroom on a budget. A few things before I get to the pieces we used.

[Tweet “Pokemon bedroom on a budget? Perfect for your Poke-Trainers! #Pokemon”]

  1. I’m a fan of basic bedding. It’s inexpensive and easy to fit different themes with the simple change of a blanket or throw pillows.
  2. I’m a compulsive decorator. I like my rooms to come together and look awesome, but I have a few rules. First, I need a room with storage. Second, I need a room that looks good, but is inexpensive. We change our minds a lot. So I don’t need to spend a fortune just to turn around and redo the room a short time later. Bonus for kid’s rooms: We use toys to decorate with. Not only are they great decorations, but they are fun!

Speaking of budget…This room came in at a steal! Everything can be purchased for under $600, which includes a large rug and several pieces of furniture that gives you tons of storage!

Here we go! Our Pokemon bedroom…

Pokemon Bedroom Ideas On A Budget

These red sheets are the perfect start to your Pokemon room.

Pokemon Bedroom Ideas On A Budget

A large fleece blanket is all you need to turn your solid red sheets into a fun, budget friendly Pokemon set.

pillow

Well almost. It wouldn’t be a complete Pokemon bedding set without a fun throw pillow. I love this Pokeball pillow. Pillow fights just got turned up a notch with tossing Pokeballs trying to catch them all.

locker

For our nightstand, we picked this fun red locker stand. I think this is a fun piece that can grow from kid’s rooms to dorm rooms which is awesome!

storage

Speaking of storage, how awesome are these cubby storage units? This shows actually two units stacked on each other giving some great height and even more room for toys, stuffed animals and anything else your child has in their room needing a home. This unit also has a great color and is super affordable!

rug

This room has a lot of red in it, so we decided to go with a yellow rug to go along with the Pikachu blanket.

lamp

This lamp may look a bit different, but it’s super cool. The balls at the end of the lamp will light up in different colors and kids can actually take the balls out making them perfect for taking with them to the bathroom at night. And what better lamp than one that looks like it has Pokeballs?

shelf

In our room, above the bed we put this fun red shelf to hold some great Pokemon treasures.

vase

Decorations don’t have to be expensive! In fact, we took two simple vases that you probably have at home already and filled them with different Pokemon themed toys.

pokeball

In one, we added Pokeballs.

pokemon

And in the other, Pokemon figurines. We found a great deal on this huge set so I knew I wanted to display them somehow.

books

A stack of Pokemon books not only look good but your kids will love them! Win, win!

pokemon poster

Posters can be a great and inexpensive way to decorate your child’s room. For our Pokemon bedroom, we chose a Pikachu poster to continue to pull out some of the yellow color. (TIP: Make a poster look high end with a nice frame. For this Pokemon bedrooom, try matching it with a nice red frame.)

pikachu

Everyone loves a Pikachu Pillow Pet! Cute, perfect for laying around with on the ground and did we say cute already?

snorlax

This Snorlax is the most appropriate Pokemon stuffed animal I can think of for a bedroom! And Poke-trainers need to have a variety of Pokemon in their Pokedex right?

DIY Un-Paper Towels

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #PledgeReflectionOfYou #CollectiveBias

Have you ever heard the saying, “Home is where the heart is?” How true! Home is where we spend time together, re-charge, make memories, and so much more. I also am a big believer in the idea that your home environment has an affect on you. I know personally, when my home is clean and organized, I feel so much better. I want to be there more, I want to create more memories with my family, and I re-charge SO much better. My home may not look like it is straight out of a magazine, but it’s my home, filled with things that I love and is a true reflection of my family. For me, my home is my heart!

DIY Un-Paper Towels

About a year ago, I made my first pair of un-towels. I probably justified it to myself saying, “Well, you can’t clean until you have something pretty to clean with.” I got to pull out my sewing machine instead of tackling a closet. But ever since, I’ve been hooked!

I love our un-towels!

  • They are pretty. I think somewhere out there it’s a proven fact that cleaning is more fun when you have pretty things to clean with. Ok, so maybe it’s not proven, but it should be.
  • They are nice and thick. We actually keep two sets – one for people to use while eating or with food, and one for us to use with cleaning products. Paper towels are great and all, but we just need one un-towel for any mess.
  • When you are done, you just throw them in the wash! Simple.
  • They are inexpensive.
  • They are easy to make. SUPER easy!

Here is how you make them!

First, gather your supplies. You will need a yard of fabric, a towel, thread, scissors and a sewing machine. Remember when you are picking your fabrics that you are using, that these are to clean up messes, so white or super light colors may not work out the best. Pre-wash your fabric and towel to avoid any shrinking later!

DIY Un-Paper Towels

First, cut your fabric. I like mine in 10 inch squares.

DIY Un-Paper Towels

Once your fabric is cut, you are going to lay your towel out and cut out 10 inch squares of the towel. I was able to get about 6 squares from one towel.

DIY Un-Paper Towels

Don’t be afraid to use the decorative parts of the towel!

Pledge 5

Pin your fabric face side down on the towel.

DIY Un-Paper Towels

Sew along the edges leaving a space 4-5 inches long open so you can turn your un-paper towel right side out.

Turn your towel right side out and sew along the edge again. This time you will close the gap. Don’t forget to backstitch at the end!

DIY Un-Paper Towels

And finally, I like to sew a wavy line through the center of my towels. This way they just stick together better in the wash.

DIY Un-Paper Towels

That’s it! We are going to use the blue ones in our kitchen and the super fun pink ones (with the vintage trailers and cars) for cleaning!

Aren’t they fun?

Who doesn’t want to clean with fun towels?

DIY Un-Paper Towels

I use my towels all the time. Seriously every day! Just like I use Pledge® every day! It’s easy to find at Kroger, and does an awesome job and smells good. I always have several of their products on hand at home, but my two favorites are the Pledge® Multi Surface Everyday Cleaner with Glade® Rainshower® and Pledge® Orange Clean Furniture Spray. Pledge® helps me keep the home I love cared for and beautiful.

DIY Un-Paper Towels

I love that the Pledge® Multi Surface Everyday Cleaner with Glade® Rainshower® can be used on almost every single surface in my home! Seriously, you can use this on Wood, Laminate, Stainless Steel, Leather, Marble, Granite, Plastic, Porcelain, Glass and Electronics. Is there honestly anything left? Plus, it smells GOOD!

DIY Un-Paper Towels

The Pledge® Orange Clean Furniture Spray honestly reminds me of my mom. I would always help her dust when I was little (except we used the lemon scent), and I loved spraying the Pledge®. I’m a huge fan of the Pledge® smell – to me it just means clean. I used to think that this could only be used on wood, but did you know it can also be used on Laminate, Stainless Steel, Leather, Marble, Granite and Plastic?

DIY Un-Paper Towels

There are so many things in my home that are special to me, and it’s nice to have a product that I trust to keep my treasures safe and looking as great as they did the day I got them! We all have items that are irreplaceable. For me, some of these items include my grandmother’s hope chest, my mother’s jewelry box, and a few sweet things that Joshua has made me over the years. I keep these things out on display all year long, so I want to keep them looking nice! Pledge® is the only product that I trust to clean them, protect them, and keep them looking their best!

DIY Un-Paper Towels

Do you know another HUGE reason that I’m a big Pledge® fan? Because they also feature Allergens Trappers® to remove dust and up to 90% of the allergens found in dust. With kids and pets that is super important to me! So quick! Whip up a set of un-paper towels, pull out your favorite Pledge® bottle and enjoy your clean, happy home!

Colorful Girl’s Elephant Bedroom Ideas

Colorful Girl's Elephant Bedroom Ideas (On a Budget!)

One of my favorite books to read not only my children, but to my classroom when I was a pre-school teacher was Elmer the Elephant. If you have never read the book before, Elmer is a bright patchwork colored elephant that the other elephants laugh at for being different. Elmer wishes he could blend in with the crowd, but he learns that he is much happier being himself.

(Pssst! Everything we used in this elephant bedroom is from Amazon which means free shipping for Prime Members! Not a Prime Member? You can sign up for a free trial here!)

How stinking cool is this light fixture? It’s made of paper and comes in tons of different colors. Bonus: It’s $16.99

bed

I’m a fan of basic bedding to dress up with pillows. What better for a colorful elephant room then a pink bedding set? This set gets great reviews and is only $35.

night stand

This nightstand is a steal for $50 and will be able to grow with your child for their next theme.

bench

Storage is so important to any room, especially kid’s rooms. I love the idea of a bench at the end of their bed. It’s perfect for reading, sitting and helping to tie shoes, or for playing Barbies on. This one is just $89.85 (and shipping is free!)

rug

This rug makes me so happy. It reminds me so much of Elmer. I honestly can’t think of a more fun rug for a room. $69.95

chair

Every bedroom needs a rocking chair. I love this modern rocker. $69.95

elephant

Do laundry baskets get any cuter? I don’t think so! This would be perfect for not only clothes but for storing toys too!

elephant tote 2 elephant tote

These totes are the absolute cutest. There are so many different animals on the different totes, but these sweet elephants are a great storage idea! $19.99

plush

This large elephant may not be multi-colored like Elmer, but he (or she!) is super sweet looking, large (because elephants should be) and extra cuddly.

elmer

Speaking of Elmer! This sweet plush is a must for your room! $10

lamp

This lamp is such a gorgeous color and not to mention a bargain! $22

pillow pillow 2

I’m a huge pillow fan. If I could, I would have a pillow mountain in every room. Amazon is my favorite place to get pillows – they have so many, are so cute and are inexpensive.

All over elephant print – $11

Never forget I love you – $3

alarm clock

I think this alarm clock is just too cute. Classic style in a fun color. $12

Our girl’s elephant bedroom packs a lot of wow into a space, but on a budget. Everything came out to be just over $500. And that includes 3 pieces of furniture and that big, fun rug!
