Chocolate Scented Birthday Cake Slime
Happy birthday! Not your birthday? Well, you might be ready to celebrate after this scented chocolate birthday cake slime! It’s fluffy, smells like chocolate and covered with ‘sprinkles’.
It’s no surprise that we make a LOT of slime around here. But we also give a lot of slime as gifts! They are simple, not expensive and kids love them! Whether you make the slime to celebrate a birthday or give for a gift this scented chocolate birthday cake slime is always a hit!
This slime is super stretchy, very soft and fluffy and best of all… scented! That’s right, it smells like real chocolate! And while it smells like chocolate and looks like a cake batter, remember that it is not for eating.
A few things before we get started. There are a few special supplies that you will need:
- Glue – This recipe uses plain, white glue. We use Elmer’s glue. Other glues should work, but we have best results with Elmer’s. All of the ingredient measurements are made with this glue. It sounds crazy but different brands of glue sometimes have different measurements of the slime ingredients. If your kiddos go through a lot of slime (and who doesn’t?) the gallons are definitely the best way to go! There are two packs available online too. If you are planning on giving slime as a gift, bundling it with a gallon of glue makes for a fantastic, inexpensive gift.
- Saline Solution – We’ve tried several different contact solutions, but this one always works best for us. Bonus: It’s the cheapest. If you have a Walmart near you, I would get it there as it is much more expensive online (which is weird!).
- Foam Beads – These are our ‘sprinkles’. These beads can be used to make floam or a crunchy slime too. Fun, fun, fun.
- Chocolate fragrance oil – YUM. This smells just like chocolate! If you have a mini-slime master, you may want to pick up a variety pack of fragrance oils. This variety pack has the chocolate in it. This company has SO many awesome scents to chose from.
Here is what you will need to make our scented chocolate birthday cake slime:
- 1 airtight container (for storage)
- 1 cup white glue
- 1 cup shaving cream
- 1 cup foaming hand wash
- ¾ tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp contact solution
- Foam beads
- Chocolate scented fragrance
- Brown acrylic paint
- Small bowl
How to make our scented chocolate birthday cake slime:
- In a bowl, measure out 1 cup white glue.
- Add 1 cup shaving cream. Shaving cream is a little funky to measure so a little extra won’t hurt it! 🙂
- Mix together and add 1 cup of foaming hand wash.
- Mix well. Your slime should be super foamy.
- Add in brown paint until you get the perfect chocolate color.
- Add in 1 tsp of cornstarch and about 1 tsp of body lotion. These will help your slime stretch and be fluffy.
- Drop a few drops of chocolate fragrance oil in. Your slime will smell just like a delicious cake – and it looks like a fluffy blob of icing! While it smells and looks, make sure it is not tasted!
- Pour in a few multi-colored foam beads. You don’t want a ton as these are just the ‘sprinkles’ and don’t want it to turn into a crunchy slime or foam but add to your heart’s desire. They will be hard to see, but when your slime ‘stretches’
- Next add in ¾ – 1 tsp of baking soda. (Start with ¾ of a tsp and add more during kneading if you need to. Baking soda is what will thicken your slime up.)
- Finally, add in contact saline solution. Start with 1 tbsp. If you need to add a bit more, you can. Saline solution makes the slime less sticky. You will know you have enough when the slime pulls away from the side of the bowl.
- Knead the slime.
- Sprinkle foam beads on top.
- Store in an airtight container.
This scented chocolate birthday cake slime is one of my kids favorites to make and play with. I can’t wait for you to try making it at home!

Beauty & The Beast Slime
I might age myself here, but when I was in 5th grade and there was this boy named Devin and he lived in our neighborhood. We were great friends and he was cute. I heard rumors that he ‘liked liked’ me. I thought he was cute and I waited patiently. For my birthday one year, his mom drove him over to me because he brought be flowers. As if that wasn’t sweet enough, he also brought be a VHS copy of Beauty and the Beast. Looking back, I wish that I would have told him that I liked him too. He made it obvious enough without having to fully admit it (we were friends!) and we continued our friendship for several years. I retrospect, he probably would have made a pretty awesome first boyfriend. I can’t remember my first boyfriend ever bringing me flowers, let alone Disney movies! But Devin did. He knew…even when kids were trying so hard to be too cool for kid stuff, I had Disney in my blood. He knew that Beauty and The Beast was my favorite. And he thought it was cool.
Flash forward (many, many) years and when I found out that Disney was coming out with a live action version of Beauty and The Beast, I may have freaked out a little bit. Getting press passes to see it early was one of the highlights of the year. My son may have been was totally embarrassed in the theater when I sang along (quietly I swear) with all of the songs. He was mortified when I started crying.
I can’t help it. The Beast. He loved her SO much that he was willing to let her go, even though he knew that meant that he and all of his friends would never break the spell.
Y’all. He was willing to sacrifice himself. That’s love.
Anyway, you aren’t here for my love obsession with Beauty and The Beast. You are here for this awesome gold slime. There are only a few things you need to make this, which is awesome. I’m all for easy projects.
Elmer’s has a new gold glitter glue that is the perfect color to mimic Belle’s gold ballgown. You will also need resin roses. You can find them at your craft store and while I paid a little less (not a whole lot though), I only got 2 red roses. Amazon has a pack that gives you 15! So if you want to add more than just one to your slime or you are making several batches, you may want to order it there.
And just a note about the saline solution: This has been the best one that we have used! It’s cheaper at Walmart, but you can also order it online.
Supplies for Beauty & The Beast Slime
- 1 airtight container
- 1 5 oz bottle of Elmer’s Gold Glue
- ½ cup water
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp contact solution
- Red Resin Rose
- Small bowl
In a container, empty a bottle of Elmer’s Gold Glitter Glue. We only use Elmer’s glue for our slimes. I think that they definitely work the best. However, the glitter glues can be slightly tricky as they are thicker than normal glue. After I squeeze the glue out, I usually get a pair of sharp scissors and cut the bottle in half to scrape out all of the glue inside. This is by far the easiest way to get it all!
Pour in half a cup of water into the glue. Completely stir it all around. The glue will look like it is breaking down and you might get nervous that it is a slime fail, but it isn’t! I promise! Just keep stirring!
When it is mixed well with the water add ½ tsp baking soda and stir.
(No your eyes didn’t play a trick on you – this is our silver glitter glue slime! But it’s the same process, I just didn’t have a photo of the last step!)
Add 1 tbsp of contact solution to the slime. It will instantly begin to form. It will be STICKY! Don’t panic! Knead the slime until it is no longer sticky.
Add the rose. And store in an air tight container when you are done.
This is a really great project to do with the kids while you watch the movie. Or if you are having a Beauty and the Beast party it makes a fun activity or party favor!
Elmer’s specialty glues are really awesome and we use them A LOT! They have glitter glues in just about every color you can think of. But not just glitter glues, they also have really awesome glow in the dark glues! (That also glow in different colors.) And you can’t go wrong with just their regular glues.
Don’t forget to pin our Beauty and the Beast Slime!

DIY Unicorn Planters With Magical Cactus Horns
DIY Unicorn Cactus Planters
I used to think that unicorns were mythical creatures that were only heard of, but never seen. However lately, they have been taking over our house….primarily our daughter’s room. It’s apparently a unicorn playground. The most recent inhabitants are these sweet unicorn planters…complete with magical cactus horns.
Ok, so maybe these unicorns didn’t just appear, but we made them. This was such a fun project! Our daughter was able to create it by herself and there is such a huge variety of ways to decorate them so they are just like real unicorns – magical and unique!
Just like you can decorate each pot uniquely, the different cacti, oh sorry, unicorn horns that you can get are also super unique. This was one of our daughter’s favorite parts I think. We went through all of the cactus plants searching for the perfect ones! (And bonus: I’ve heard that cactus plants are hard to kill…which means yay! No green thumb required!)
Want to make your own DIY Unicorn Planter? Here’s how!
DIY Unicorn Planter Supplies:
- 1 terra cotta pot and base
- White acrylic paint
- Black acrylic paint
- Paint brushes – one for details and one general painting one
- Glitter – I prefer the extra fine glitter
- Decorations – We used glitter tulle and silk flowers. Rhinestones would be super fun too!
- Hot glue gun
- Glue
- Foam Sheets – 1 white and 1 pink
- Potting Soil
- Cactus
- Sealer (optional but recommended)
DIY Unicorn Planter Instructions:
Paint your pot and base white. While the paint is still dry, sprinkle it with glitter. Paint dries SUPER fast on terra cotta so you will have to work in small sections. Once everything is glittered, spray with your sealer if you are using one. Set aside until it is dry.
The fun part! Decide how you are going to decorate.
We did one with just tulle and one with tulle and flowers.
If you are going to use flowers, smaller flowers are the easiest to work with!
Rhinestones would be another fun idea to try! Hot glue your decorations on.
Using a fine tip brush, paint on the unicorn’s eyes and lashes. Cut out two ear shapes of white foam. Out of the pink foam, cut out two inner ears and glue to the center of the white foam ears.
Hot glue your ears to the inside of the pot where desired.
Once the glue is dry, fill the pot with potting soil and add your cactus horn. Be careful! Don’t get poked!
Ta da! Aren’t they adorable? Super magical!
If you make one, be sure to let us know! I totally want to see! Don’t forget to pin our DIY Unicorn Planters!

Super Simple DIY Football Mason Jars

It’s time for football!!!!
I’m so excited. I love football. I love playing a pick up game in the back yard, watching the kids play at school, watching our favorite college teams, our favorite professional teams, the football parties, tailgating….the football food! Seriously, I love everything about it.
Speaking of Friday night lights….I have the perfect DIY football project for you to make for your next football party, tailgating event or just to make and take to the game! You can never be too decked out on the sidelines cheering!
These DIY football Mason Jar cups are so adorable and so insanely simple to make. Just 5 minutes and you are on your way! The possibilities are pretty endless with this way of decorating, but I like to try to make a few different designs to help people keep their drinks seperate a bit. The best part? After your party, you just pull your design off and your jars are ready to decorate for your next event! And did I mention, this show stopping party idea won’t break the bank? You can make them for about $1 each (including the jar!) Already have the jar? Your total cost is about 30¢. TOUCHDOWN!
You will need:
- Mason Jars (I use the pint size. Bonus: This is the perfect size to hold a 12 oz POWERADE!)
- Balloons in your desired colors. I used green, black and a pearl gold. (NOTE: Brown balloons can be trick to find. The ones I found were SUPER dark only lighting up in color once they are filled up. Since I wasn’t filling them up I went with the gold color and I think it looks great!)
- White electrical tape (I got mine at Walmart in the tools/auto area.)
- Scissors
First, I give my balloons a little stretch. Honstly, I’m not sure it does anything, but I do it anyways! 😉 Then you make two cuts as shown above and below.
You really just want the round section of the balloon.
Then s-t-r-e-t-c-h your balloon around the bottom of your Mason Jar. It won’t be straight across anywhere, they are kind of a fun whimsy look. It looks almost like you dipped the jar in a bucket of paint.
Then use your electrical tape to add a design. I stick to pretty basic designs that are easy to make with straight lines.
These honestly take just a minute to make and anyone can do it! I think for our end of the season party I may just do all referee cups and order little whistles to hang on them! (Well, I’m still debating if the whistles are a good idea for a whole football team of boys to be running around with! It might get a little noisy! LOL)
POWERADE is definitely the drink of choice. I was so excited when I saw that Walmart had 12 packs of 12 oz bottles because they fit perfectly in the cups! Do you know what else does? Cans of Coca-Cola! So while you are shopping be sure to stock up on Coke Zero and Coca-Cola as well as POWERADE!
You can find everything that you need to make these fun football cups and to fill them at Walmart! Walmart has everything that busy game moms need!
Looking for more awesome ideas? Whether you are celebrating on the sidelines with your favorite players or cheering on your teams at home in your living room you can make the most of your game days with these winning ideas and be a #NotSoFastMom!

DIY Marble Mug
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Folgers for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
November is here and I can’t believe it. Fall is officially making way for winter and that means a few things. One, I’m looking at getting my Christmas list going. And two, I’m looking for my coffee mug! I think it might be a scientific fact that the more the thermometer dips down, the more I fill my coffee cup up! Today’s project was inspired by both of those things! That and the amazing lunch I had a few weeks ago at Trader’s Point Creamery with the awesome people of Folgers!
I was tickled when I got invited to come have lunch and meet with the Folgers team. It was totally the perfect coffee day – cold and rainy.
So why were we meeting with Folgers? Because Indianapolis is one of only three areas that are test markets for this really awesome new product called Folgers Perfect Measures. (Currently it is also available in St. Louis and Kansas City.) So basically, I’m thrilled to introduce this to y’all!
I really think this product is super smart. No more measuring (and in my case, spilling) and it’s so easy to customize. Want a stronger coffee? No problem! Just add an extra tab.
Tab? Yes tabs! Your favorite coffee that you have grown to love now comes in tab. No measuring. No mess. With your automatic drip coffee maker, just place your tabs in a coffee filter. Add your water and brew your perfect pot. One tab is the same as one scoop so it’s super easy to get used to. You can get the Fogers Perfect Measures in 5 flavors: 100% Columbian, Breakfast Blend, Classic Roast, Classic Decaf and Black Silk.
I was so inspired by this totally awesome, new way to brew, I thought I needed a new coffee mug to go with it. It needed to be just as easy to make as the Folgers Perfect Measures was! And it needed to be adorable. I wanted something that would make a cute gift. (And what better to give with a coffee mug but a container of Fogers coffee!)
These marble mugs are just the thing. A truly personalized, perfect cup! The mugs themselves cost only about $1-2 and just a few minutes to make, but look completely high end.
Here is what you need:
- A Ceramic Coffee Mug (I bought one at our local dollar store to use)
- A large mixing bowl (I bought one at our local dollar store to use)
- Warm water
- Nail Polish (I only used two colors, but use whatever colors and however many you want!)
- A toothpick
- Wax Paper
Here is how you make them:
-
Fill the bowl with warm water.
-
Slowly pour in the first color of nail polish. You want to pour it pretty close to the water’s edge, otherwise the drops will sink to the bottom.
-
Add in your second color of polish the same way.
-
Use a toothpick and swirl the colors together.
-
Dip the mug at an angle into the water. You don’t need to submerge the mug. The polish should want to just cling to it.
- Set the mug upside down on the wax paper to dry.
(*Note: I have been putting my mug on the top rack of the dishwasher and not had a problem, but if you are worried about it then just be sure to hand wash it!)
Once your mug is dry, fill with your favorite Folgers Perfect Measures coffee! Or wrap it up and give it along with a container of Folgers coffee for the perfect gift.
Don’t forget to be on the look out in a Kroger or Marsh store near you for the new Folgers Perfect Measures Coffee! Ditch the mess, a brew up your perfect cup to drink out of your new perfect mug!

Minion Birthday Party Idea: Minion Wreath
I don’t know about your family, but mine is so excited to see the new Minion Movie coming out in a few weeks! We loved both of the Despicable Me movies and so you know that we will be first in line to see the new Minion Movie.
I have a feeling that lots of Minion birthday parties will be popping up this summer so I wanted to create a really quick and even easier craft that you can use at your next Minion party! This Minion Wreath is so cute and it couldn’t get any easier.
You will need:
2 – 2 yard yellow boas (I used one that was more of a fuzzy boa with shorter feathers I got from Hobby Lobby. Here is one from Amazon that would work!)
1 – 12 inch wire wreath
1 – traditional size paper plate
1 – cake or dessert size paper plate (white)
1 sheet of card stock
Acrylic paint Grey (I used Apple Barrel Pewter Grey and Americana Black)
Hot Glue Gun
Directions:
Let’s start with the wreath. You will want to tie one end of the boa to the wire wreath.
Then, simply wrap the boa around the wreath until the wreath is covered. Easy, right?
On the dessert plate, using the black paint, paint a circle in the center. This will the the Minion’s eye. Using the grey paint, paint the outside rim of the plate. This will be the Minion’s goggle rim.
Paint a piece of card stock grey and allow the paint to dry.
Once dry cut the card stock so you have two pieces measuring 4 1/2 inches by 2 3/4 inches.
To assemble the wreath, turn your large dinner size paper plate upside down. Put hot glue around the rim and set the wreath on top. The bottom plate is going to create a platform for your ‘eyeball’ plate to sit on.
Hot glue a piece of stock to either side of the eyeball creating the sides of the goggles.
Put hot glue on the back of the ‘eyeball’ and glue in the center of the wreath on top of the back of the larger dinner size paper plate.
Enjoy your new Minion wreath!
