Make This Weekend Special: Build a Fort With Your Kids!
A boy and his fort. Well, in this case it would be boys and their fort. There is something about pillows, blankets and a few chairs. Add in a Pop Secret popcorn snack and it turns any day into a downright awesome day!
When Josh was little he loved playing in forts. Whether they were those little pop up tents or just a blanket thrown over a chair, all that mattered was that he could crawl in. Over the years his fort making has evolved into some pretty extravagant forts! But his all time favorite place to build a fort is in the basement.
Why?
It’s easy. We have a ping pong table set up in our basement and it makes for a pretty darn good base for the fort. They usually drape a few blankets over it, drag over a couple of chairs and of course you can’t forget the tube entrance. That silly tube was one of their toys from many, many, many years ago! I actually tried throwing it away once but was told no because it’s job is to be the entrance for forts!
The final touch of a ‘boys only’ sign hangs predominately where all can see.
(Note: Mom is excluded from this rule when she brings snacks.) 🙂
The best thing about their fort? They don’t have to take it down. It’s in the basement which is totally their domain! For some reason, homework is more fun to do there. Video games are enjoyed more. And of course, this fort was built with a perfect view of TV. After school, this is where you can find the boys. In their fort.
With a bag of Pop Secret.
I’m fairly certain that forts and snacks go hand in hand. And Pop Secret is a snack that I always have on hand for them! Easy to make and super delicious, popcorn is a must in our house. And Pop Secret is our go to brand!
I know that this is a time that they boys look forward to and enjoy. I know when they get older they will sit around and say “Hey, remember when we used to have that fort in the basement?” Even though our fort has a permanent place in our home, that doesn’t mean we don’t add to it! (Although we do eventually need our kitchen chairs back!) It’s something fun we can all do together. When was the last time you and your kids built a fort together?
Next time you hear “Mom, I’m bored!” bust out the pillows! Or maybe this week while the snow is coming down – bring out the blankets! Or this weekend before you start that movie. Pop some Pop Secret popcorn and build a fort. I promise, it’s just as much fun for the parents as it is the kids! 🙂

My kids are very much into forts and snacks. I’m a fan too, but I’ll enjoy it even more when they’re big enough to vacuum up the mess they made. 🙂

I don’t know how many “Boys Only” (except mommy) forts we’ve made in our home. 🙂 And my son can use the microwave at his school, so he takes Pop Secret in his lunch 2-3 times a week.
