Every year, our living room gets transformed into a beautiful winter wonderland. Snowmen get put out, Santas get displayed, and stockings are hung. But one of my favorite decorations we have is our tree. Every year we get a real tree so the whole living room smells so …. wintery.
Then, we add our decorations and ornaments. Our tree is full of symbolic ornaments. We have some that were made with little hands that are really special. Some are from vacations and trips that we have taken, Some are unique to different members of our family showing their hobbies and interests.
Each ornament is special. It’s fun to open up the box of ornaments and with each ornament that gets taken out, memories begin to come back.
Keeping our ornaments safe until next year is important to me. The last thing I want, is to open up or tote and box of ornaments and to find one that broke in storage.

For our more bulky ornaments (like Santa!) I use the Hefty bowls. Just place your ornament in one bowl, and tape another bowl to the top. Easy!
For our small ornaments, Hefty makes the perfect size storage containers. They are called Mini Me Cups. We drop our smaller ornaments inside a cup and then tape another cup to the top.
For taller ornaments like our circus bear, we use the regular size Hefty cups. Like the mini me cups, I just taped another cup on top.

That is a pretty neat idea. I usually just wrap mine in tissue paper.
Such a smart concept! We have the same thing going on with the ornaments and memories, and no way I want to see any of our precious memories broken.
I usually end up with a broken ornament every year, I should try this out for the fragile ones!
What a great idea! We tried to keep the boxes for all of our ornaments, but there are still a few that we have to box up loose and just hope they make it to next year.
How have I never thought of doing this? I would have so many less broken ornaments!

This is such a great concept. I love the idea of using cups for some of the ornaments. My current organizer shakes them all around and cups would protect them even more.
Seriously, how brilliant is that! I’ve been using the old wrap them in paper and put them in a tote method, and well, not everything made it this year. 🙁 Time to reorganize my ornaments to protect them!
Such a great idea! But I am afraid that would totally add up with all the ornaments I need to store. I usually just save the boxes and pack them back in.
We save most of our boxes too! But some – especially ornaments the kids made at school don’t have boxes. And some, well, I’m not sure what happened to the boxes! 😉

Not only is that a smart concept, its so frugal! I am loving this. Even after Christmas all the storage containers go 50% off and some of them are still costly. I buy them at thrift stores for a few bucks and use old egg cartons and paper towel rolls for storage. But I love this idea.
