Homemade Everything Bagels
Sometimes I impress myself. It’s hard to do, because generally, I’m incredibly hard on myself, but every once in a great blue moon it will happen. And when it does…
I have to admit that I have never really had anything ‘everything’. I know. I’m ridiculous, but it’s true. Truth be told, I don’t like barely anything….so the thought of having everything was a little daunting. When Dustin and I started dating, everything was all he would eat. And even his kids, who are insanely picky were requesting everything bagels. Clearly I was missing something. So I tried it.
And they are magical. So naturally that led me to buying everything seasoning (The best place to buy it is Trader Joe’s! In case there isn’t a TJ near you, Amazon to the rescue!) and putting it on everything. (Get it, everything seasoning….on everything?) Which then led me to making my own everything seasoning (try it, you will thank me) and now literally everything is seasoned with everything.
But back to the bagels.
If you would have told me that I would be that kind of woman who would be making homemade bagels, I would have laughed at you. A business, three dogs, seven kids and I would have life together enough to be making homemade bagels!?!
But I did. I totally did it. And they are so.freaking.amazing. Not only are they amazing, but since I photographed these bagels for this post, we’ve made them twice more. I can’t even eat the bagels from our local bagel shop anymore. And bagels from the store? Forget it. This is all I want.
I’ve learned not only about how fantastic everything seasoning is, but how much it is worth it to make homemade bagels. Combined, they are nothing short of amazing. But if for some reason you are weird and don’t like everything seasoning (for real, have you ever really tried it?) you can make this recipe with a hundred other combinations: plain, chocolate chip, cinnamon raisin, mmmm….. This is the only bagel reason you will ever need!

Instant Pot Chili Con Queso
Disclosure: This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company. All opinions are mine alone. #KickoffWithGreatTaste #CollectiveBias
Football at our house is a BIG deal. Every week, Dustin and I sit down and draft our fantasy team, not so much to compete in a contest, but really just to compete against each other. The kids will even get into it picking their favorites! Then, we all sit around during the day watching football, cheering on our teams (and players!), and munching.
Really do Sundays get better than that? (The answer is no. No, they don’t.)
Recently we have been homegating more. Even better, we have this projector that can put the games on the side of the house. It’s SUPER cool. Not only is it like watching the games on the big screen, but even better, for the evening games it means football and bonfires!!
I don’t know about you, but bonfires, football, queso and Coca-Cola? That’s pretty much a night made!
We can just set up the coolers, bring out the food and let the night begin!
But whether we are watching at home or if we are heading out to tailgate, one of our favorite things to make, hands down, is chili con queso. Dustin has been a bit obsessed with his Instant Pot lately, so that’s what he has been whipping it up in. It’s cheesy goodness y’all.
I swear, we make it every single week. The kids love it. We love it. Our tailgating friends love it. And it is super versatile! We of course dip our chips in it. But we’ve also topped it on baked potatoes, added to hot dogs, smothered on our burgers, and loaded it on our french fries. I always say to make a bigger batch so we can use the leftovers in a taco the next day, but every time we make a bigger batch – it seems to just get eaten.
Everything is super easy to make and shopping at Walmart makes it even easier! Have you used their online grocery pick-up before? It’s so simple to use and saves me a TON of time! Walmart is definitely the party central for our homegates and tailgates! While you are picking up the ingredients for this Instant Pot Chili Con Queso, you can also pick up all of your other tailgate needs (and groceries for the week!) all in one trip.
We never have a tailgate without our Instant Pot Chili Con Queso, but also not without Coke® and/or Coca-Cola® Zero Sugar. It pairs with everything! It’s a total winning combination!

Apple Slice Doughnuts – Healthy Fun Snack Ideas
Doughnuts or apple slices….our kids go for the doughnuts first every time. Ok, I go for the apple slices every time too. I don’t know what it is, but there is just something about a yeast doughnut, dipped in chocolate frosting with sprinkles on it. I just can’t resist!
The other day, I was trying to think up a funny prank to pull on the kids. (Because I’m evil.) They had been complaining about our lack of doughnuts lately. So I decided to make some ‘doughnuts’.
Why I love these apple slice doughnuts:
- They were easy.
- They were fast.
- They were really yummy.
- They totally worked! The kids really thought they were doughnuts!
So whether you want to make these fun treats as a trick (they would be perfect for April Fool’s Day!) or for a fun treat…I highly recommend them!
A few quick things before I show you the how to.
This apple corer would have been useful and made them look a lot nicer. I bought one for next time, plus, just to use when we are doing apples. (I’m totally thinking of filling an apple with caramel. Just saying…)
These can be made in advance. Just put them on a baking sheet and keep them in the refrigerator. What a fun healthy treat for a party!
Here is what you will need to make apple slice doughnuts:
- Apples
- Whipped Cream Cheese
- Nutella
- Food Coloring
- Sprinkles
Here is how you make the apple slice doughnuts:
Wash and slice the apples. Keep the skin on the apples.
If you have an apple corer, core the apples. If not, you can use a knife.
Add a bit of whipped cream cheese to a small bowl. Tint the cream cheese whatever color you want your frosting colors to be. It is super important to use the whipped cream cheese to get the frosting texture.
For a chocolate doughnut, use Nutella.
Spread the cream cheese (or Nutella) on the apple slice. Shake a few sprinkles on top.
Ta da! Doughnuts! Aren’t they fun?

Football Stadium Sugar Cookies
I love several things in life.
Puppies.
Target.
Concerts.
But I really have a love for cookies and football. And these Easy Football Stadium Cookies are a perfect mix of two of my favorite things!
The sugar cookies are actually my Grandma’s recipe. Ok, well, they are a friend of my Grandma’s (shout out to Kathy! Woop! Woop!) but my Grandma did write it on an index card and include in her cookbook of favorite recipes. So I feel like it kind of counts. She makes them every Christmas. They are perfect for busting out the cookie cutters with.
But today, Grandma’s cookies are getting brought out for fall. I may love cookies, but I’ll be honest. I am not talented in the cookie decorating department. So when I say that these are easy and that even I was able to make them look good, I mean that they are truly, 100% super simple.
I love the little ‘people’ in the stands behind the field goal. And sugar crystals? Those are my favorite! This is essentially the sugar cookie of my dreams. My favorite cookie recipe. My favorite sprinkles. And my favorite sport.
Before you start. Here are few recommendations on things you will need to make these Easy Football Stadium Cookies:
- Baking Mat – If you don’t have some of these yet, please do yourself a favor and get some. They are inexpensive and I promise you that you will use them 1,000,000 times. Don’t believe me on their awesomeness? Check out the thousand+ 5 star reviews.
- Parchment Paper – You need it. You can’t make these without it. I like to buy the parchment paper that is pre-cut. In the long run it is cheaper. And now I’m spoiled by not having to tear it. I know, first world problems.
- Sprinkles – The right sprinkles are key. You need the little ball sprinkles to represent all of the fans cheering in the crowd. These sprinkles scream happy, so I’m sure you will use them on everything – ice cream, pretzels, cookies, etc. I consider it an investment. Ok, maybe not, but I really like these! 🙂
- Green Sugar Crystals – Sometimes I am highly annoyed with how difficult it can be for me to find sprinkles in basic colors at our local stores. And sugar crystals aren’t any different. I try to stock up with the seasons (St. Patrick’s Day or Christmas for green) but sometimes, they just can’t be found. If you can’t find them at your local store, Amazon is (always) a good option.

Game Day Guacamole
Are you ready for some football?! I am!!! I know that there are three kinds of people in this world.
One, people who love football.
Two, people who are only there for the food.
And three, the ones that I find questionable, Patriots fans.
We won’t get into the third group of people, but if you are in the first two…then you are always welcome to our football tailgates! (Just kidding. If you are a Patriots fan….I do let a select few in after thorough screening and interviews.) Haha!
This guacamole dip is perfect for serving on it’s own or in a recipe (hello, shrimp bites!) And with the adorable game day twist, it will be talk of the party. It’s like the two point conversion of appetizers. Delicious and cute. A total win.
(PS. Before you get started, this avocado slicer is AMAZING! First of all, it’s cheap. Second of all it splits, pits and slices. It has 4.5 stars from over 2,500 reviews…because as silly as it sounds…it’s almost life changing!)
4
avocadoes
1 cup
tomatoes
1/4 cup
red onion diced
1/4 cup
white onion diced
1/2 cup
jalapeno diced
2 tbsp
lime juice
2 tbsp
cilantro-
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup
refried beans
1/2 cup
sour cream
Servings:
-
Cut avocados in half, remove the seed and use a spoon to scoop it out. (Or use an avocado slicer!)
-
Mash avocados with a whisk (thickness is your preference)
-
Rough dice the tomato and onion. Add them to the avocado mix.
-
Cut the jalapeno in half and remove the seeds. Finely dice and add to the guacamole mix. (This recipe can be made with more or less jalapeno to your liking!)
-
Add salt, freshly squeezed lime juice and cilantro.
-
Mix well.
-
Place sour cream in a ziploc baggie and cut a very small hole in the corner. Squirt over the guacamole to make football field lines. Save a bit of sour cream for the final step.
-
Put the beans into a second ziploc bag cutting the corner again. Squirt over guacamole in the shape of football. Fill in the football shape.
-
To make smooth, use the back of a spoon to smooth over.
-
Using the remaining sour cream, draw the lines of the football.

One Pot Cheesy Taco Spaghetti
One Pot Cheesy Taco Spaghetti Recipe
Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, there was a very beautiful woman named….hmm….ohhhh….Amanda. And Amanda and her Prince Charming lived in a charming home with their four adorable children. Everyday, Amanda would go to the freezer to pull something out to thaw for dinner and think of all of the magical meals she would prepare with love for her family. When evening came, she would chop, saute and create the most amazing feasts. Prince Charming would come in and say, “Looks good, babe” and make himself a plate. Amanda would beam with pride. Child A would come in and say, “Thanks for dinner” and Amanda would be happy. Child B would run into the kitchen and say, “Thanks. I’ll just have this” and put one part of the feast on his plate. But Amanda would still smile. Child C would bounce in and say, “Ewww. That looks disgusting. I don’t like anything that doesn’t come out of a box.” Amanda would cringe. And finally Child D would pop in and say “Can I just make Ramen noodles? Why don’t you ever make something we like?” And Amanda would be frustrated.
The next night, Amanda thought she would make her life easier and make something plain, gross and out of a box. Prince Charming walked in and winced, but said “Looks good babe” and made himself a plate. Child A said, “Thanks for dinner”. Child B said, “Hmmm. Maybe I’ll just have a PB and J.” Child C said “YESSS!” Then took a bite and said “Never mind, I don’t like this.” And Child D said, “I don’t like it this way. I’m just going to have Ramen noodles.” And Amanda gave up and vowed that she would from that day forward, only make things that she liked for dinner ever again because if people were going to complain, then she would at least be happy. And she did. And she never heard the sounds of complaining again over her favorite dinners.
Ok, so I made that story up. Well, sort of. Moms! Please tell me I’m not alone in the dinner time blues! Luckily, I have a few recipes that I know I can whip up that I love and I know that all four kids will gobble up and even ask for seconds on. Those my friends are called keepers. Strawberry Pound Cake With Fresh Strawberry Glaze
Summer to me is filled with pools, sunshine, and lots and lots of strawberries. We love them in our house. That means strawberry ice cream, strawberry shortcake, and most definitely strawberry pound cake! In fact, this strawberry pound cake recipe is loaded with strawberries. And not just that, but it’s topped with even more strawberries!
This is the only strawberry pound cake recipe you will ever need. I promise.
One of the secrets to this pound cake is the Greek yogurt.
Confession. I hate yogurt. I never eat it. And even worse, I think I’ve had it twice in my whole life. (To my defense, one of those times was earlier this year when I tried it again. I want to like it. I tried to like it. I did not like it.)
BUT. We always have yogurt on hand, because I love to use it in baking. It is a great for making your cakes come out super moist and perfect for replacing some of the butters and fats with. You know. To make your cake healthy. Ish.
And speaking of healthy-ish…do you see all of the strawberries in this pound cake? I don’t know about you, but that HAS to count as a serving of fruit. Ok. Maybe not quite.
What about since we added Greek yogurt to make it healthy-ish that no one would notice if you added chocolate chips? Ok that was just a plain lie.
- I need to give up the dream that cakes were healthy. Fruit or no fruit. Greek yogurt or no Greek yogurt.
And…most importantly…. - You would most certainly notice chocolate chips because it would be AMAZING. And I highly recommend it.
Oh, and last thing before the recipe! This pound cake is good for the freezer too! If you have a ton of strawberries this summer season, whip up the cake and toss in the freezer. To keep our cakes the best in the freezer, I wrap first in parchment paper, then in a layer of plastic wrap and then I toss it in a Ziploc or use our food saver. When we are ready, just defrost. However, I would leave the glaze off until you are ready to serve.
1 1/2 cup
flour
2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
salt
1 cup
Greek yogurt, plain
1 cup
sugar
3
eggs
1 1/2 tsp
vanilla extract
1/2 cup
vegetable oil
1 cup
strawberries, diced
1/2 cup
strawberries, smashed
2 cups
powdered sugar
Servings:
-
Preheat the oven to 350.
-
Spray a loaf pan with non-stick spray.
-
In a bowl, mix together flour, baking powder and salt.
-
In a second bowl, mix the wet ingredients: Greek yogurt, eggs, vanilla extract and oil.
-
Add the sugar to the wet ingredients and mix well.
-
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir until combined.
-
Fold in the diced strawberries to your batter.
-
Pour the batter into the loaf pan.
-
Bake for 45-55 minutes or until the center comes out clean with a toothpick.
-
Once baked, remove from oven to cool.
-
Combine the smashed strawberries and powdered sugar to form a glaze.
-
Pour over the cooled pound cake.
-
Allow to set before serving.

Spring Orange Marshmallow Fluff Salad
Orange Marshmallow Fluff Salad
One of our kids is obsessed with cottage cheese. Cottage cheese and fruit. Cottage cheese and pretzels. Some days he even puts cheese on his cottage cheese. I can make a big dinner that I’m insanely proud of myself for and without a doubt, he will say “Can I just have cottage cheese instead?” So awhile back, I was looking for some cottage cheese mixes that he hasn’t tried yet. That’s when I found Fluff Salad.
Now, not only is he obsessed with cottage cheese, but he’s obsessed with Fluff Salad as well. It’s the perfect mix of cottage cheese, tons of fruit and whip cream. Oh and marshmallows. Because who doesn’t love mini marshmallows?
This recipe is perfect for taking to pitch-ins, picnics, reunions, or events. People like it. (A lot.) And it makes a lot. A lot. A lot. (Trust me when I say get a big bowl!)
16 oz
Cool Whip Frozen
2 20 oz
Pineapple Tidbits Well Drained
3 11 oz
Mandarin Oranges Well Drained
1 3 oz
Orange Jell-o
2 1/2 24 oz
Cottage Cheese
2 cups
mini marshmallows
Servings:
-
In a really large bowl (trust me, you want a large one!) mix the cottage cheese and the pack of Jell-o.
-
Fold in the Cool Whip. You will want to make sure that it is frozen or semi-thawed. If you let it fully thaw, then it won’t set up correctly.
-
Add your oranges and pineapple. Gently mix. You want to be careful with the oranges!
-
Last thing to add – the marshmallows. Mix one last time!
-
Transfer your fluff from the bowl to a large baking dish. Smooth out the top and cover. Put in the refrigerator and chill for 4+ hours.
-
This is perfect for taking to picnics or pitch ins! Nothing goes better with cottage cheese than fruit….except for fruit, whip cream and marshmallows. 🙂
