Stockpile Recipe: Loaded Baked Potato Soup in a Bread Bowl
This is what we had for dinner – and let me just say, delicious. And the best part is, it’s super easy (meaning crockpot!) and you probably have everything you need in your pantry! Oh, and you can make it for about $5! 🙂
Your Grocery List:
For the soup:
1/2 cup butter
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
1 can of cream of celery soup
2 cans of cream of chicken soup
1 bag of cubed frozen hash browns
5 slices of bacon
1 pint half and half
salt and pepper to taste
Green onion
For the bread bowl: (Recipe from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe)
1 1/2 tablespoon yeast
2 1/2 cups warm water
2 tsp salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
7 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon cornmeal
1 egg white
1 tablespoon water

Cut the bacon into small bite size pieces. Then, the most complicated step of all. Ready? Dump everything in the crock pot. Set on low and cook for 8 hours stirring occasionally. Hard right? 🙂
Recipe – Bread Bowls:
In a large bowl dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it stand for 10 minutes.
Add salt, oil and 4 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Beat well. Stir in the remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time, beating after each addition.
Knead the dough for about 6 minutes on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic.
Lightly oil a bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover and let rise in a warm area for about 40 minutes (or until doubled in size)
Lightly grease a baking sheet (I used 2 cookie sheets). Sprinkle with cornmeal.
Punch the dough down and divide into 6 equal portion. Shape into a round ball. Place dough baking sheets. Let rise for 35 more minutes. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
In a bowl mix egg white with water. Brush the loaves lightly.
Bake for 15 minutes. Brush again with the egg mixture and continue to bake for about 15 minutes until golden.
Let cool.
Carve out the center of the bread bowl and spoon soup in. Garnish with green onion, sour cream or more bacon and cheese if you wish. Enjoy!!

Did you make the bread bowls GF? If so, what flour did you use?
I am strictly GF because I am allergic to wheat, and am always looking for new, and especially yummy, recipes.
