Chocolate Scented Birthday Cake Slime

Happy birthday! Not your birthday? Well, you might be ready to celebrate after this scented chocolate birthday cake slime! It’s fluffy, smells like chocolate and covered with ‘sprinkles’.

It’s no surprise that we make a LOT of slime around here. But we also give a lot of slime as gifts! They are simple, not expensive and kids love them! Whether you make the slime to celebrate a birthday or give for a gift this scented chocolate birthday cake slime is always a hit!

This slime is super stretchy, very soft and fluffy and best of all… scented! That’s right, it smells like real chocolate! And while it smells like chocolate and looks like a cake batter, remember that it is not for eating.

A few things before we get started. There are a few special supplies that you will need:

  • Glue – This recipe uses plain, white glue. We use Elmer’s glue. Other glues should work, but we have best results with Elmer’s. All of the ingredient measurements are made with this glue. It sounds crazy but different brands of glue sometimes have different measurements of the slime ingredients. If your kiddos go through a lot of slime (and who doesn’t?) the gallons are definitely the best way to go! There are two packs available online too. If you are planning on giving slime as a gift, bundling it with a gallon of glue makes for a fantastic, inexpensive gift.
  • Saline Solution – We’ve tried several different contact solutions, but this one always works best for us. Bonus: It’s the cheapest. If you have a Walmart near you, I would get it there as it is much more expensive online (which is weird!).
  • Foam Beads – These are our ‘sprinkles’. These beads can be used to make floam or a crunchy slime too. Fun, fun, fun.
  • Chocolate fragrance oil – YUM. This smells just like chocolate! If you have a mini-slime master, you may want to pick up a variety pack of fragrance oils. This variety pack has the chocolate in it. This company has SO many awesome scents to chose from.

Here is what you will need to make our scented chocolate birthday cake slime:

How to make our scented chocolate birthday cake slime:

  1. In a bowl, measure out 1 cup white glue.

  2. Add 1 cup shaving cream. Shaving cream is a little funky to measure so a little extra won’t hurt it! 🙂

  3. Mix together and add 1 cup of foaming hand wash.
  4. Mix well. Your slime should be super foamy.

  5. Add in brown paint until you get the perfect chocolate color.

  6. Add in 1 tsp of cornstarch and about 1 tsp of body lotion. These will help your slime stretch and be fluffy.

  7. Drop a few drops of chocolate fragrance oil in. Your slime will smell just like a delicious cake – and it looks like a fluffy blob of icing! While it smells and looks, make sure it is not tasted!
  8. Pour in a few multi-colored foam beads. You don’t want a ton as these are just the ‘sprinkles’ and don’t want it to turn into a crunchy slime or foam but add to your heart’s desire. They will be hard to see, but when your slime ‘stretches’

  9. Next add in ¾ – 1 tsp of baking soda. (Start with ¾ of a tsp and add more during kneading if you need to. Baking soda is what will thicken your slime up.)

  10. Finally, add in contact saline solution. Start with 1 tbsp. If you need to add a bit more, you can. Saline solution makes the slime less sticky. You will know you have enough when the slime pulls away from the side of the bowl.
  11. Knead the slime.

  12. Sprinkle foam beads on top.
  13. Store in an airtight container.

This scented chocolate birthday cake slime is one of my kids favorites to make and play with. I can’t wait for you to try making it at home!

Beauty & The Beast Slime

I might age myself here, but when I was in 5th grade and there was this boy named Devin and he lived in our neighborhood. We were great friends and he was cute. I heard rumors that he ‘liked liked’ me. I thought he was cute and I waited patiently. For my birthday one year, his mom drove him over to me because he brought be flowers. As if that wasn’t sweet enough, he also brought be a VHS copy of Beauty and the Beast. Looking back, I wish that I would have told him that I liked him too. He made it obvious enough without having to fully admit it (we were friends!) and we continued our friendship for several years. I retrospect, he probably would have made a pretty awesome first boyfriend. I can’t remember my first boyfriend ever bringing me flowers, let alone Disney movies! But Devin did. He knew…even when kids were trying so hard to be too cool for kid stuff, I had Disney in my blood. He knew that Beauty and The Beast was my favorite. And he thought it was cool.

Flash forward (many, many) years and when I found out that Disney was coming out with a live action version of Beauty and The Beast, I may have freaked out a little bit. Getting press passes to see it early was one of the highlights of the year. My son may have been was totally embarrassed in the theater when I sang along (quietly I swear) with all of the songs. He was mortified when I started crying.

I can’t help it. The Beast. He loved her SO much that he was willing to let her go, even though he knew that meant that he and all of his friends would never break the spell.

Y’all. He was willing to sacrifice himself. That’s love.

Anyway, you aren’t here for my love obsession with Beauty and The Beast. You are here for this awesome gold slime. There are only a few things you need to make this, which is awesome. I’m all for easy projects.

Elmer’s has a new gold glitter glue that is the perfect color to mimic Belle’s gold ballgown. You will also need resin roses. You can find them at your craft store and while I paid a little less (not a whole lot though), I only got 2 red roses. Amazon has a pack that gives you 15! So if you want to add more than just one to your slime or you are making several batches, you may want to order it there.

And just a note about the saline solution: This has been the best one that we have used! It’s cheaper at Walmart, but you can also order it online.

Supplies for Beauty & The Beast Slime

In a container, empty a bottle of Elmer’s Gold Glitter Glue. We only use Elmer’s glue for our slimes. I think that they definitely work the best. However, the glitter glues can be slightly tricky as they are thicker than normal glue. After I squeeze the glue out, I usually get a pair of sharp scissors and cut the bottle in half to scrape out all of the glue inside. This is by far the easiest way to get it all!

Pour in half a cup of water into the glue. Completely stir it all around. The glue will look like it is breaking down and you might get nervous that it is a slime fail, but it isn’t! I promise! Just keep stirring!

When it is mixed well with the water add ½ tsp baking soda and stir.

(No your eyes didn’t play a trick on you – this is our silver glitter glue slime! But it’s the same process, I just didn’t have a photo of the last step!)

Add 1 tbsp of contact solution to the slime. It will instantly begin to form. It will be STICKY! Don’t panic! Knead the slime until it is no longer sticky.

Add the rose. And store in an air tight container when you are done.

This is a really great project to do with the kids while you watch the movie. Or if you are having a Beauty and the Beast party it makes a fun activity or party favor!

Elmer’s specialty glues are really awesome and we use them A LOT! They have glitter glues in just about every color you can think of. But not just glitter glues, they also have really awesome glow in the dark glues! (That also glow in different colors.) And you can’t go wrong with just their regular glues.

Family Night Game Trophy

DIY Family Game Night Trophy

DIY Family Game Night Trophy

Our house is busy. Like super busy. And full. And loud.

It’s us….and at least 4 kids. More on weekends. And typically even more than that once you take into account the neighborhood kids who straggle in. Our house is pretty cool. There is always food being made for a post on one of our blogs that needs eaten. There are always people to play with. And there is always something to do.

DIY Family Game Night Trophy

But one thing that is a struggle with so many people is getting people to agree on things to do. Except for one thing: games. Our house LOVES games. Card games, video games, board games…it doesn’t matter. If it is a game, then we are in.

And since we MAY be slightly competitive (it’s all in fun though!) we all love to win. Game nights are a big deal. Each week it is one of the kids’ job to pick out dinner and pick out the game(s) that we will be playing. And now, we have introduced the family game night trophy. The trophy of honor that sits on the winner’s dresser until the next game night rolls around.

DIY Family Game Night Trophy

DIY Family Game Night Trophy

Y’all. This thing is a big deal. You would think that it was real gold on there. And definitely not made using a toilet paper roll. Haha! (Pssst! This is a great project if you have games that are missing pieces or hit up those thrift stores! If all else fails – I’ve listed some places for supplies. And feel free to use your own creativity to create a trophy totally your own! Top it with an action figure or a letter for your family’s last night! Whatever you have works!)

Instructions:

The best part of this project is that you can make it however you want with whatever supplies you have. If you have games that are missing pieces or if you see games at the thrift store feel free to use pieces from those!

  1. Use white acrylic paint to paint the base and the wood dice cubes. Allow to dry.DIY Family Game Night Trophy
  2. Use a small paint brush to paint black dots on the wood dice cubes.

    DIY Family Game Night Trophy

  3. Paint the base with the gold liquid leaf.
  4. We also painted a plastic lid that we had gold. Doing this project again, I would use poker chips. I think that would be a fun addition!DIY Family Game Night Trophy
  5. We decided to spell the word ‘champ’ with Scrabble tiles on the front. Some other options would be No. One, First, or if your last name is short you could do that. Hot glue the letters on the front.DIY Family Game Night Trophy
  6. Hot glue the dried wooden dice on to the base.

    DIY Family Game Night Trophy

  7. To get some height, we used a toilet paper tube. (Yay for recycling!)DIY Family Game Night Trophy
  8. Hot glue the game pieces to the toilet paper tube. (Amazon is totally the place to go for these. Bonus: We have some extras if we need them.)DIY Family Game Night Trophy
  9. Glue the game piece toilet paper tube to the top of the dice.

    DIY Family Game Night Trophy

  10. Glue the lid (or if you have Poker chips, that’s what I would use doing this project again).

    DIY Family Game Night Trophy

  11. Top off your trophy with a chess piece.

DIY Family Game Night Trophy

You are ready to crown your family game night champ!

Looking for some new family favorite games to add to your collection? One of my favorite places to go is Goliath Games. (You can also purchase them on Amazon!) They sent us a box of games (and not in exchange for a review or for a post, just because they are awesome like that. This post is no way sponsored – in fact they have no clue I’m even writing it! haha We just genuinely love them!) and we are constantly checking out their site for new ones! They have classics like Rummikub, but they have games we had never ever heard of that have since made it to our rotation of faves.

Bubble Gum Scented Slime

Bubble Gum Scented Slime

Bubble Gum Scented Slime

Our house is a full on slime factory. Our daughter, Casee has a YouTube channel all about slime and insists on posting a video everyday. I mean, if there isn’t glue on the sponges is it really a kitchen? (Don’t answer that.) Since we’ve been on a slime making spree – we’ve been trying to come up with some creative versions of our favorites. And this bubble gum scented slime is right up there!

Bubble Gum Scented Slime

To make this bubble gum scented slime, you need to make a toned down version of cloud slime. If you don’t know what cloud slime is, don’t worry, we will show you!

You will need:

This makes a big batch so feel free to half the ingredients if you would like.

Bubble Gum Scented Slime

Instructions:

Bubble Gum Scented Slime

  1. Pour three cups of white glue into a container.
  2. Sta-Flo will be your activator. Slowly add the Sta-Flo a little at a time, mixing between each. If needed, you can use a little more or less to your liking. (NOTE: It’s much cheaper at the store, but click here if you are unsure of what the bottle looks like so it is easier to find. Some stores have it kind of hidden!)

    Bubble Gum Scented Slime

  3. Knead your slime. It will be sticky right now – that’s ok!

    Bubble Gum Scented Slime

  4. In a second bowl, pour the instant snow and add hot water. It will expand and ‘puff’. (Don’t be discouraged when you see the container of insta-snow. It looks small, but it is plenty for several batches of slime! It really expands!)Bubble Gum Scented Slime
  5. Add the instant snow to the white slime and knead well. I like to add in my snow in smaller batches kneading in between until you get the texture you want.

    Bubble Gum Scented Slime

For a full ‘cloud slime’ effect, use close to the whole 1/3 of a cup. We stopped short on ours to make it a little less ‘cloud-y’.

    Bubble Gum Scented Slime

  6. Add in the coloring. We used to use food coloring, but recently we switched to these soap dyes. We like them MUCH better! More color combinations and they don’t stain your hands like food coloring did.

    Bubble Gum Scented Slime
  7. Add a few drops of bubble gum scent. If you think your kiddos will make several kinds of scented slime, you might want to look into getting a variety pack of scents like this one.

    Bubble Gum Scented Slime

  8. Knead well.
  9. Store in an airtight container.

Bubble Gum Scented Slime

This slime looks and smells just like bubble gum, but sadly it isn’t edible so keep an eye on young kids to make sure they don’t try to taste it.

Stretch it, make bubbles, squish, poke… This was a really fun slime for us to make!

DIY Honey Slime Recipe

DIY Honey Slime

Our house for the past year or so has been a slime factory. Our 9 year old has even started her own YouTube channel for slime. I’ve learned that glue, glitter and well, slime, is inevitably going to cover our kitchen. When in Rome you know? So now, I have joined the slime making crew. Don’t tell anyone, but I actually like to make it. (I still don’t like to clean it though!) My favorite part of creating slime is coming up with new and creative ideas to inspire our slime.

DIY Honey Slime Recipe

This honey slime recipe is one of my favorites actually. It looks like real honey! Well, except that it has sequins and glitter and cute bumble bees on it.

DIY Honey Slime Recipe

Do you want the honey slime recipe? Luckily, we are sharing it! Because seriously, this slime is too cute not to share with everyone! (PS…Do you love slime? Hope so, because we have lots of new slime recipes that we will be posting soon. Thanks spring break!)

What You Will Need For The DIY Honey Slime Recipe:

In a plastic container, pour 1 cup of hot water and stir in ⅓ tsp of Borax.

DIY Honey Slime Recipe

In a second plastic container, mix ¼ cup water and pour an entire bottle of glue. Mix together gently.

Add in your mix ins! Add the glitter to your glue mixture.

If you want to add some food coloring to get the perfect honey color, add it in now. I like the gel food coloring. It only takes a tiny bit. I literally stick a knife in and whatever sticks is what I add. A little will go a long way! I used a golden yellow and a brown.Pour in some gold sequins. I think the sequins resemble a bit of a honey comb shape!

Once the glue mixture is the color you want, add your bees.

Pour the container of the glue mixture into the water and borax solution.

Let it sit for 30 seconds. You will see it instantly start to glob up. I use this time to rinse out my first container.

Reach in and pull out the slime mixture and put it back into your empty container. It will be sticky right now – that’s ok.

Knead it for a few minutes.

If you need to firm it up, just add a touch of the remaining borax and water mixture.

Store in an airtight container.

Isn’t this so pretty? Perfect for parties, for an activity to go with a bee unit for a classroom or just because you have a slime aficionado.

DIY Unicorn Planters With Magical Cactus Horns

DIY Unicorn Cactus PlantersDIY Unicorn Planters with Magical Cactus Horns

I used to think that unicorns were mythical creatures that were only heard of, but never seen. However lately, they have been taking over our house….primarily our daughter’s room. It’s apparently a unicorn playground. The most recent inhabitants are these sweet unicorn planters…complete with magical cactus horns.

DIY Unicorn Planters with Magical Cactus Horns

Ok, so maybe these unicorns didn’t just appear, but we made them. This was such a fun project! Our daughter was able to create it by herself and there is such a huge variety of ways to decorate them so they are just like real unicorns – magical and unique!

DIY Unicorn Planters with Magical Cactus Horns

Just like you can decorate each pot uniquely, the different cacti, oh sorry, unicorn horns that you can get are also super unique. This was one of our daughter’s favorite parts I think. We went through all of the cactus plants searching for the perfect ones! (And bonus: I’ve heard that cactus plants are hard to kill…which means yay! No green thumb required!)

Want to make your own DIY Unicorn Planter? Here’s how!

DIY Unicorn Planter Instructions:

Paint your pot and base white. While the paint is still dry, sprinkle it with glitter. Paint dries SUPER fast on terra cotta so you will have to work in small sections. Once everything is glittered, spray with your sealer if you are using one. Set aside until it is dry.

The fun part! Decide how you are going to decorate.

We did one with just tulle and one with tulle and flowers.

If you are going to use flowers, smaller flowers are the easiest to work with!

Rhinestones would be another fun idea to try! Hot glue your decorations on.

Using a fine tip brush, paint on the unicorn’s eyes and lashes. Cut out two ear shapes of white foam. Out of the pink foam, cut out two inner ears and glue to the center of the white foam ears.

DIY Unicorn Planters with Magical Cactus Horns

Hot glue your ears to the inside of the pot where desired.

DIY Unicorn Planters with Magical Cactus Horns

Once the glue is dry, fill the pot with potting soil and add your cactus horn. Be careful! Don’t get poked!

Ta da! Aren’t they adorable? Super magical!
