Tips to Make Your Diet a Success

I’m not exactly a stranger when it comes to dieting. I sometimes feel like I’ve done it so many times, that by now, I should be a pro. The older I’ve gotten, the more well, challenging, it’s been. Losing weight can be overwhelming. Let’s be honest. Cookies, pasta, chocolate and wine are all amazingly delicious. Counting calories is no fun. And trying to make sure that you are getting the right amount of fiber, vitamins and your protein to carbohydrate ration? Forget it.

If you go into a diet overwhelmed, you aren’t going to do well. Even if you go in with a goal, sometimes those goals can be overwhelming too. But don’t get overwhelmed! Easier said than done? Well here are a few tips to make sure that you succeed in your weight loss journey!

1. Set up smaller goals.

I’m a huge fan of goals! But don’t let them make you feel like you are trying to crawl out of a bottomless pit! Breaking up a larger goal into a more manageable size makes any task more manageable. But, you aren’t done with your goals just yet. Add in a time frame for your goals to help keep yourself on track. It’s much easier to talk yourself into unhealthy choices if your goal is to just lose 30 pounds, sometime. If you break that 30 pound goal up to say that for the next 16 weeks you want to lose 2 pounds a week, not only does 2 pounds sound much easier than 30, but the deadline helps you to stay on the right path.

But wait. Doesn’t 2 pounds a week for 16 weeks equal 32 pounds? Not 30? Well, that brings us to tip #2!

2. Give yourself some wiggle room!

Not every week is going to be the best. Things happen. And sometimes your body needs some time to adjust. While deciding when you want to reach your goal weight, be sure to give yourself a little bit of wiggle room. Having the time frame is meant to keep you on track and to encourage you, not to stress you out if you have a less than perfect week.

3. Have a support team

While you are on your weight loss journey it is important to have people in your corner. People who will support you, encourage you and keep you accountable.
