Pumpkin Spice Latte Slime

Yes. We. Did. Do. That.

Calling all fall fans. We have managed to make the most iconic fall drink into an amazing slime that you (and your kids!) will LOVE! Oh and did I mention that it really smells delicious?

Now, this slime is actually a combination of two different slime recipes. A mix of our classic slime recipe and a fluffy version. But don’t worry, they are both really easy to make!

Now, before we get started, there are a few special things that you will need for this slime.

And containers. You can use a ziploc baggie, but they are hard and don’t work as well. I really recommend these containers. They are a great size, super cheap and keep the slime in great shape for playing with later!

Ingredients to make pumpkin spice latte slime:

Ingredients:

1 airtight container
1 cup white glue
1 cup shaving cream
1 cup foaming hand wash
¾ tsp baking soda
1 tbsp contact solution
5 oz clear glue
½ cup water
½ tsp baking soda
Acrylic paint: latte, caramel, and brown
1 tbsp contact solution
Pumpkin pie scented fragrance
Coffee scented fragrance
Brown glitter
Small bowl

How to make pumpkin spice latte slime:

In a bowl, measure out 1 cup white glue.
Add 1 cup shaving cream. Shaving cream is a little funky to measure so a little extra won’t hurt it! 🙂
Mix together and add 1 cup of foaming hand wash.
Mix well. Your slime should be super foamy.
Add in 1 tsp of cornstarch and about 1 tsp of body lotion. These will help your slime stretch and be fluffy.
Next add in ¾ – 1 tsp of baking soda. (Start with ¾ of a tsp and add more during kneading if you need to. Baking soda is what will thicken your slime up.)
Finally, add in contact saline solution. Start with 1 tbsp. If you need to add a bit more, you can. Saline solution makes the slime less sticky. You will know you have enough when the slime pulls away from the side of the bowl.
Knead the slime.
Set aside. This will be the whipped topping to your pumpkin spice latte.
In a small bowl, pour 5 oz of clear glue.
Add ½ cup of water and stir.
Sprinkle in ½ tsp baking soda .
Add a few drops of both pumpkin pie and coffee fragrance oils. Stir.
Add acrylic paint. I used a mix of latte, caramel and brown.
Sprinkle in brown glitter.
Stir well.
Add 1 tsp of contact solution. Stir and then knead.
If the slime needs to be thickened, add a bit more baking soda. If the slime needs to be less sticky, add more contact solution.
Layer your brown coffee slime and top with a fluffy whipped topping slime swirl.

When you swirl your slime together, it reminds me of the cool coffee designs with the swirls.

I have to say, this pumpkin spice latte slime is one of my favorites that we have made. It smells amazing. And the two different textures make it super fun to play with!

Disney’s The Nutcracker And The Four Realms Coloring Pages

First. A little back story. When I was little, I idolized the ballerinas. I saw a video of The Nutcracker once at Christmas time and it was over. From then on, I wanted to be a Sugar Plum Princess….desperately.

Sadly, I never became a ballerina. Even more sad, I never got to see The Nutcracker in person.

Then one day, I got this text from Dustin. (And yes, we are that couple. I was in his phone as Boss Lady and he was Boss Man. When you guys own a company together….some days you fight over who gets to be the boss! haha)

Well, surprise!! He DID get me Nutcracker tickets!! We had amazing seats and I even got surprised with a giant Nutcracker to bring home.

And that is the story of how I became the happiest girl in the world.

Last year I was so excited to see the Nutcracker in person and this year, I’m so excited to see The Nutcracker and the Four Realms! (And the ballet again!)

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.

Pumpkin Guts Slime

Fall is here!!!! WOO HOO! To celebrate, we have a series of super fall inspired slimes that we will be sharing this week. These were a lot of fun to make. If you follow us on Facebook, then you may have seen our Facebook Live making this Scented Pumpkin Guts Slime Recipe! If not, then no worries, I’ve got you covered.

Do you remember making jack-o-lanterns as a kid? You cut off the top of your pumpkin and then the scooping begins. Stringy, gooey, pumpkin guts filled with all of those pumpkin seeds. It was kind of the original slime. I really wanted to capture that with this slime. In a not so gross way.

Oh and it’s scented. It smells….AMAZING.

(Note: While it looks great, it isn’t edible. Please don’t try to eat it!)

A few things before we get started.

If you haven’t done you pumpkin yet, keep this slime in mind and save your pumpkin seeds. If you have, no big deal. You can buy pumpkin seeds at the grocery store.
For that pumpkin orange color, we used food coloring. I got it from our neon food coloring set, but you can also use the soap colorants or even acrylic paint.
We decided to keep this slime fun on it’s own. But feel free to add glitter or sequins if you want.
To get that perfect pumpkin smell, my go to is P&J Fragrances. You can buy the pumpkin on it’s own, but if your kiddo makes a lot of slime, you may want to check out their sets. It breaks down to about $2.50 or so each (usually) when you get a set. We have bought several from them and they are all awesome. Bonus: You can add a few drops to your candle warmers and your whole house smells wonderful!
And finally…containers. Y’all. Containers in our house are kind of a big deal. Between the slime that I make for our blogs….that the kids insist on keeping….and the slime our daughter makes (she even has a YouTube channel and takes custom orders in school!) We can NEVER have enough it seems like. These are the best. Perfect size. Affordable. They work.

Ready to make your Scented Pumpkin Guts Slime Recipe?

You Will Need:

1 airtight container
1 5 oz bottle of clear glue
½ cup water
½ tsp baking soda
1 tbsp contact solution
Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin Pie Seasoning
Orange food coloring
Small bowl

In a bowl, pour the entire 5 oz bottle of clear glue. Add in ½ cup of water.

Drop a few drops of orange food coloring. Stir.

Add a few drops of pumpkin fragrance.

Baking soda helps determine the thickness of your slime. I add just under 1/2 a tsp and add more if needed when I am kneading the slime.

Once the baking soda is stirred in, pour pumpkin seeds into the slime. Give it a quick stir.

Add in the saline contact solution. This is the one we use. Saline solution will keep the slime from being sticky. Again, you can add more if you need to. Stir together.

The slime will begin to form instantly (how cool right?!) Knead the slime for a few minutes.

Store your Scented Pumpkin Guts Slime Recipe in an airtight container.

Animal Face Toast With Printable Kid Friendly Recipe Cards

Hmmm. Maybe you fit into one of these categories:

You and your kiddo love to cook together.
You are looking for a way to make breakfast or snack time more fun.
You are trying to make fruit more appealing to your kids.
You are looking for the perfect snack to go with a book you are reading.
You are just looking for something yummy and fun.

If you said yes to any of those five statements, then animal face toast is perfect! Plus our printable recipe cards are super fun too!

Even our older kids were super excited when they came downstairs and saw the animal toast. I would tell you that one was my favorite over the others, but I honestly can’t pick.

If you are planning on making these with kids here are a few really great supplies to help you!

Kid friendly knives – This set is made from Nylon and will still cut through most food but much safer than metal blades
Strawberry slicer – I don’t know why, but our kids love this strawberry slicer. I like that I don’t worry about them slicing their fingers!
Toaster oven – If your kids are really into cooking or a bit older and just starting to cook on their own, a toaster/convection oven might be the perfect thing.

Animal Face Toast: Fish Toast

You will need:

1 slice toast
Cream Cheese
Sliced Strawberries
Blueberry

Instructions:

Make your toast. Turn it to the side so you are looking at a diamond shape.
Spread your toast with a layer of cream cheese.
Wash strawberries and slice them. Layer them on the toast to look like fish scales covering 3/4 of the toast.
Cut one strawberry to form a smile shape. Add it to the cream cheese.
Place one washed blueberry eye.

Animal Face Toast: Monkey Toast

You will need:

Toast
Nutella
2 blueberries
2 round banana slices

Instructions:

Toast your bread.
Spread a round layer of Nutella on your toast.
Wash two blueberries and place on the Nutella for eyes.
Peel a banana and slice. Take two round slices and cut them in half. Place one piece on either side of the toast for the ears. Take the other banana slices and place horizontally for the mouth leaving a small gap between the two.

To make the animal face toast puppy you will need:

Toast
Cream Cheese
Nutella
Raspberry
Blueberries
Black decorating gel

Instructions:

Make your toast.
Cut the toast slice into 3 sections.
Spread cream cheese on the larger, center piece.
Spread Nutella on the two smaller pieces. These will be the ears.
Spread a small Nutella dot on top of the cream cheese.
Place two washed blueberries for the eyes, putting one in the Nutella circle.
Cut a washed raspberry in half and place on the cream cheese for the puppy nose.
Using the black decorating gel, draw the puppy mouth.

Animal Face Bear Toast:

You will need:

Toast
Nutella
Banana Slice
3 blueberries

Instructions:

Make your toast!
Spread Nutella over your toast.
Place one banana slice for the nose on the Nutella.
Wash and dry the blueberries. Add two blueberry eyes.
Add a drop of Nutella on the back of a blueberry and place on the banana slice for the nose.

Football Stadium Sugar Cookies

I love several things in life.

Puppies.

Target.

Concerts.

But I really have a love for cookies and football. And these Easy Football Stadium Cookies are a perfect mix of two of my favorite things!

The sugar cookies are actually my Grandma’s recipe. Ok, well, they are a friend of my Grandma’s (shout out to Kathy! Woop! Woop!) but my Grandma did write it on an index card and include in her cookbook of favorite recipes. So I feel like it kind of counts. She makes them every Christmas. They are perfect for busting out the cookie cutters with.

But today, Grandma’s cookies are getting brought out for fall. I may love cookies, but I’ll be honest. I am not talented in the cookie decorating department. So when I say that these are easy and that even I was able to make them look good, I mean that they are truly, 100% super simple.

I love the little ‘people’ in the stands behind the field goal. And sugar crystals? Those are my favorite! This is essentially the sugar cookie of my dreams. My favorite cookie recipe. My favorite sprinkles. And my favorite sport.

Before you start. Here are few recommendations on things you will need to make these Easy Football Stadium Cookies:

Baking Mat – If you don’t have some of these yet, please do yourself a favor and get some. They are inexpensive and I promise you that you will use them 1,000,000 times. Don’t believe me on their awesomeness? Check out the thousand+ 5 star reviews.
Parchment Paper – You need it. You can’t make these without it. I like to buy the parchment paper that is pre-cut. In the long run it is cheaper. And now I’m spoiled by not having to tear it. I know, first world problems.
Sprinkles – The right sprinkles are key. You need the little ball sprinkles to represent all of the fans cheering in the crowd. These sprinkles scream happy, so I’m sure you will use them on everything – ice cream, pretzels, cookies, etc. I consider it an investment. Ok, maybe not, but I really like these! 🙂
Green Sugar Crystals – Sometimes I am highly annoyed with how difficult it can be for me to find sprinkles in basic colors at our local stores. And sugar crystals aren’t any different. I try to stock up with the seasons (St. Patrick’s Day or Christmas for green) but sometimes, they just can’t be found. If you can’t find them at your local store, Amazon is (always) a good option.

Easy Football Stadium Cookies

Ingredients

Servings:

Instructions

In a bowl, mix together margarine, sugar, eggs and vanilla extract.
In a second bowl, mix together the dry ingredients, the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
Combine the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well.
Chill the dough for 4 hours.
Preheat oven to 375.
Roll the dough to ¼ inch thick. Use a round cookie cutter or a glass to make circle shapes.
Place on a baking mat or a greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes.
Allow to cool.
Melt white candy melts according to package instructions.
Place the melted candy melts in a ziploc or bakery bag. Cut a tiny hole in the corner or use a fine tip.
On parchment paper, pipe out a ‘Y’ shape or field goal shape. Allow to set while you decorate your cookies.
Frost the top half of the cookie in vanilla frosting.
Dip the cookie into small round sprinkles.
Frost the bottom half with green frosting.
Sprinkle green sugar crystals over it.
Pick a field goal and stick to the center of your cookie.

DIY Clothespin Birds: Crafts For Kids

DIY Clothespin Birds

Clothespin Birds are for sure a thing in our house. Actually, sentimentally they are one of my favorite projects lately. Why?

See this guy? Yep. He made the original birds. Probably not what you were expecting! In case you don’t follow me on Instagram this is Dustin. (Wait. Whhhhaaaat?! You totally should. It’s full of fun stuff, if I do say so myself.)

Our story (Cliffsnotes edition)

I met him when I was 15 at my very first job. I was a florist at a grocery store and he worked at the meat counter. Gosh, I would flirt with him all the time. We lived in the same neighborhood and I was friends with his younger brother, so outside of work we saw each other here and there. Over the years, we grew up, had kids, got married, got divorced and reconnected. Now, we have a house, seven kids between the two of us, three dogs and he just quit his job to come blog with me full time. I’m pretty lucky to not only be with my best friend, but work with my best friend doing something that I love to do!

But the birds. This was the first DIY project I gave to Dustin to do. See, he’s an amazing cook. (Allllll these recipes? They are his. All the recipes on our slow cooker/Instant Pot site? Yeah. Those are his too.) Crafting though? Well, he’s getting better. Better-ish. But these cute little birds are so easy that literally anyone can do it. Even Dustin. 🙂

Our kids thought they were pretty cool too. So we seriously have a flock of clothespin birds at our house. Luckily, we’ve found some great uses for them. Sometimes, they are great bookmarks. Sometimes, we use them as chip clips in the pantry. We’ve added magnets to the back of some for the refrigerator so they can hold school papers and art work. And some, well, some are just put around our daughter’s room for decoration. And for holding notes. Notes are very important.

To make the clothespin birds, you will need:

Clothespins (Buy them online. I thought these would be easy to find, and maybe it was just my stores, but it took me forever and I ended up buying expensive ones at the craft store. I tried big box stores and the dollar store without any luck. I wish I would have just picked them up on Amazon and been done!)
Acrylic Paint – Your choice of colors (For small children you can use tempera paint)
Paint Brushes
Feathers
Googly Eyes (Small ones)
Orange foam sheet
Glue (I used a low temperature hot glue gun, but Elmer’s glue would work too!)

Instructions for making clothespin birds:

Pick out the paint colors that you wish to use. We used pastel colors for our birds.
Paint your clothespins in the color of your choice. The paint will dry quickly, but be sure to allow it to fully dry.
With the handle of your clothespin up, attach 2 googly eyes.
Cut out a small triangle beak out of the orange foam sheet.
Glue the beak onto your bird.
On the back of the clothespin, glue a few feathers.
Allow to dry.
Attach your bird so he (or she!) can stand! You are finished!

Ta da! Aren’t they cute? Like I said, our flocks are everywhere!

Rot The Cutest In The World Book Activity For Kids

Rot, The Cutest In The World Book activity

I have loved books since I was little. REALLY loved books. When I was little I would pretend my books were the library. I made little pockets on the inside of them. And when I ran out of pockets, I lovingly drew library cards on the inside covers. I would then make my little brothers (who really had no interest in them) check books out. I would show them all of the good ones to take back to their rooms.

And then I would be the enforcer to go and collect the library fines that they then owed me. I’m pretty sure that part was just because we couldn’t just play something quietly and nicely all day. You know, mix it up. How can someone ruin a fun, quiet game of library? Turn all Incredible Hulk on them and demand fines.

I may have lost my love for library fines, but I’ve never lost my love of books. Even kids’ books. As a teacher and a parent, our library was always full (no hand drawn library cards or fines…) One goal I had for both my classroom and my home was to make sure that I passed down a love for reading. I wanted books to come alive and for the kids to learn that they can take you to some pretty amazing places. So creating fun snacks or art projects to go along with them became our thing.

But back to Rot. Rot The Cutest In The World is an adorable book we received recently. It is by Ben Clanton, which explains all of the adorable illustrations.

Rot is a mutant potato. Like most mutant potatoes, Rot loves all sorts of games and contests. So when he sees a sign for the “Cutest in the World Contest,” he can’t wait to enter.

But when Rot realizes who he’s up against—an itty-bitty baby bunny, a little-wittle cuddly kitten, and an eenie-weenie jolly jellyfish—he loses confidence. Will the judges find room in their hearts for an adorable mutant potato?

In the end, Rot finds out that he is just perfect as he is. It is a sweet but also fun and silly book that teaches a great lesson in self confidence! If you don’t have Rot, The Cutest In The World yet in your library, I highly recommend it!

You will need for our Rot, The Cutest In The World Book activity:

Rot, The Cutest In The World Book
Brown grocery bag
Black marker
White construction paper (or computer paper)
Black pipe cleaners
Glue

Rot is a potato. He’s not made to be perfect, because he is perfectly imperfect. Cut an oval-ish shape for your Rot out of a brown paper bag. And then, crumble it all up into a ball. Unfold your paper and you should have something similar to what is shown here.

Next out of white construction paper, cut out 2 large oval shapes for eyes and 3 half circle shapes for his teeth. Again, no need for perfection for these!

Glue the two eyes on. Using a black marker or a Sharpie, draw his two eyeballs and his nostrils.

Rot has some pretty serious eyebrows. Cut some pipe cleaners and glue in place. He also has a pretty great smile. Bend a pipe cleaner into a smile shape and glue as well.

Next, glue in place those pearly white teeth of his. And finally, cut a few more pipe cleaners to glue on the back of Rot for his hair. Isn’t he cute? Definitely the cutest in the world.

Family Night Game Trophy

DIY Family Game Night Trophy

Our house is busy. Like super busy. And full. And loud.

It’s us….and at least 4 kids. More on weekends. And typically even more than that once you take into account the neighborhood kids who straggle in. Our house is pretty cool. There is always food being made for a post on one of our blogs that needs eaten. There are always people to play with. And there is always something to do.

But one thing that is a struggle with so many people is getting people to agree on things to do. Except for one thing: games. Our house LOVES games. Card games, video games, board games…it doesn’t matter. If it is a game, then we are in.

And since we MAY be slightly competitive (it’s all in fun though!) we all love to win. Game nights are a big deal. Each week it is one of the kids’ job to pick out dinner and pick out the game(s) that we will be playing. And now, we have introduced the family game night trophy. The trophy of honor that sits on the winner’s dresser until the next game night rolls around.

DIY Family Game Night Trophy

Y’all. This thing is a big deal. You would think that it was real gold on there. And definitely not made using a toilet paper roll. Haha! (Pssst! This is a great project if you have games that are missing pieces or hit up those thrift stores! If all else fails – I’ve listed some places for supplies. And feel free to use your own creativity to create a trophy totally your own! Top it with an action figure or a letter for your family’s last night! Whatever you have works!)

Supplies:

1 Base
3 Wood Cubes
Toilet Paper Tube
Plastic Game Piece Pawns
Poker Chips
Chess piece
Scrabble Tiles
Hot Glue Gun
Hot Glue
Liquid Gold Leaf
Acrylic Paint – White
Acrylic Paint – Black
Paint Brush

Instructions:

The best part of this project is that you can make it however you want with whatever supplies you have. If you have games that are missing pieces or if you see games at the thrift store feel free to use pieces from those!

Use white acrylic paint to paint the base and the wood dice cubes. Allow to dry.
Use a small paint brush to paint black dots on the wood dice cubes.
Paint the base with the gold liquid leaf.
We also painted a plastic lid that we had gold. Doing this project again, I would use poker chips. I think that would be a fun addition!
We decided to spell the word ‘champ’ with Scrabble tiles on the front. Some other options would be No. One, First, or if your last name is short you could do that. Hot glue the letters on the front.
Hot glue the dried wooden dice on to the base.
To get some height, we used a toilet paper tube. (Yay for recycling!)
Hot glue the game pieces to the toilet paper tube. (Amazon is totally the place to go for these. Bonus: We have some extras if we need them.)
Glue the game piece toilet paper tube to the top of the dice.
Glue the lid (or if you have Poker chips, that’s what I would use doing this project again).
Top off your trophy with a chess piece.

Bubble Gum Scented Slime

Our house is a full on slime factory. Our daughter, Casee has a YouTube channel all about slime and insists on posting a video everyday. I mean, if there isn’t glue on the sponges is it really a kitchen? (Don’t answer that.) Since we’ve been on a slime making spree – we’ve been trying to come up with some creative versions of our favorites. And this bubble gum scented slime is right up there!

To make this bubble gum scented slime, you need to make a toned down version of cloud slime. If you don’t know what cloud slime is, don’t worry, we will show you!

You will need:

2 ⅔ cups white glue
⅓ cup Instant Snow
⅔ cup Sta-Flo
⅔ cup water, hot
2 containers
Pink Coloring
Bubble Gum Scent

This makes a big batch so feel free to half the ingredients if you would like.

Instructions:

Pour three cups of white glue into a container.
Sta-Flo will be your activator. Slowly add the Sta-Flo a little at a time, mixing between each. If needed, you can use a little more or less to your liking. (NOTE: It’s much cheaper at the store, but click here if you are unsure of what the bottle looks like so it is easier to find. Some stores have it kind of hidden!)
Knead your slime. It will be sticky right now – that’s ok!
In a second bowl, pour the instant snow and add hot water. It will expand and ‘puff’. (Don’t be discouraged when you see the container of insta-snow. It looks small, but it is plenty for several batches of slime! It really expands!)
Add the instant snow to the white slime and knead well. I like to add in my snow in smaller batches kneading in between until you get the texture you want.

For a full ‘cloud slime’ effect, use close to the whole 1/3 of a cup. We stopped short on ours to make it a little less ‘cloud-y’.
Add in the coloring. We used to use food coloring, but recently we switched to these soap dyes. We like them MUCH better! More color combinations and they don’t stain your hands like food coloring did.
Add a few drops of bubble gum scent. If you think your kiddos will make several kinds of scented slime, you might want to look into getting a variety pack of scents like this one.
Knead well.
Store in an airtight container.

This slime looks and smells just like bubble gum, but sadly it isn’t edible so keep an eye on young kids to make sure they don’t try to taste it.

Stretch it, make bubbles, squish, poke… This was a really fun slime for us to make!

DIY Honey Slime

Our house for the past year or so has been a slime factory. Our 9 year old has even started her own YouTube channel for slime. I’ve learned that glue, glitter and well, slime, is inevitably going to cover our kitchen. When in Rome you know? So now, I have joined the slime making crew. Don’t tell anyone, but I actually like to make it. (I still don’t like to clean it though!) My favorite part of creating slime is coming up with new and creative ideas to inspire our slime.

This honey slime recipe is one of my favorites actually. It looks like real honey! Well, except that it has sequins and glitter and cute bumble bees on it.

What You Will Need For The DIY Honey Slime Recipe:

1 Cup Hot Water
1/3 tsp Borax
1 5 oz Clear Elmer’s Glue
1/4 Cup Room Temperature Water
Food Coloring – I used gel food coloring (I like the different color options it gives me and the awesome color it provides!) The colors that I used were golden yellow and brown.
Gold Sequins
Extra fine glitter – I used a mix of two glitters. One was a light golden tan and one was more of a gold.
Bee Button Embellishments
2 Containers for mixing
1 Container for storing

DIY Honey Slime Recipe

In a plastic container, pour 1 cup of hot water and stir in ⅓ tsp of Borax.

In a second plastic container, mix ¼ cup water and pour an entire bottle of glue. Mix together gently.

Add in your mix ins! Add the glitter to your glue mixture.

If you want to add some food coloring to get the perfect honey color, add it in now. I like the gel food coloring. It only takes a tiny bit. I literally stick a knife in and whatever sticks is what I add. A little will go a long way! I used a golden yellow and a brown.Pour in some gold sequins. I think the sequins resemble a bit of a honey comb shape!
