Cleaning Tip – How to Clean Grout

Don’t you hate when you clean something, step back and you know it’s clean but it still looks a little dirty? That is, or I should say, was me with the grout in our bathroom! I would clean the shower, but still there was a tint to our once white grout that drove me crazy! Then I learned a bathroom cleaning tip on how to clean grout. It does take a little time, but it’s not hard (more teadious). But the good news is that it looks SO much better and it doesn’t have to be done very often!

You will just need a bleach pen and sponge!

How To Clean Grout

Bleach pens are awesome because they have a fine tip side and the bleach is thicker than it would be straight from the bottle. Just squeeze on your bleach on the grout (you don’t need to go crazy) and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. I usually do this first and then go on and clean the rest of my bathroom. By the time I’m done cleaning the toilet, sinks and mirrors the bleach has done it’s job!

(My before and after. And confession: I didn’t even let it sit for as long as I should have!)

Use your sponge to scrub the bleach on the grout and do a quick swipe over the tile! There is no sense in working harder than you have to! Go ahead and clean the shower tiles while you are at it! 🙂 Then just simply rinse! Your grout should be nice and clean!

*I have not tried this, but I’ve heard that this will also work on colored grout as well. I would test a very small spot before doing the whole thing!*

  1. Wow that stuff works really good! I don’t have this in my home but I know some family members who do!

  2. I have fiberglass right now, but this would have been fantastic in one of my previous homes. There were only a few spots that were problems, which is why the pen would have worked so well!

  3. Never in my life would I have though to use this pen for grout, but it seems like a good idea! Much easier than a toothbrush dipped in bleach that I would use when doing this awful cleaning task.

  4. These are great tips!!! We don’t have any grout except for the tile work around our fireplace but it doesn’t take much to clean. Tile and grout in the bathrooms and kitchen though, is a whole nother story! My dad has a whole kitchen countertop that’s tiled. He needs this tutorial! Thanks!

  5. I love Clorox products to make cleaning and disinfecting a lot easier. I have not seen this yet and will have to check it out, I have a teenager that could use it for his bathroom.

  6. I love to find products that really work and I can see from the pictures how well it works. It really sucks having cleaned the shower and it still doesn’t look totally clean so I know that feeling.

  7. Ok, that does it! I need a clorine bleach pen to get some much needed cleaning done in my bathroom!

  8. I didn’t know they still made those bleach pens. I had one about 10 years ago and loved it, then when it ran out, I couldn’t find it at my store. I am going to have to browse the shelves again to see if we carry it again!

  9. It looks like you had great results! I never thought about using a bleach pen before. Grout is usually so difficult to keep clean.

  10. I need to get this pen. I have really dirty grout and I wonder if this would clean it and bleach it to white? I have gray grout and I hate it. Thanks for sharing this I am going to try this.

  11. I did this last year in our rent house. The tile grout was so nasty I couldn’t stand to walk in the bathrooms. It’s amazing how well this works!

  12. Great tip! I have never used the bleach pens before. I rarely use bleach because of the smell. I will have to check these out and see if they have a strong bleach smell.

  13. We don’t have grout in our current home, but I’ve pinned this tip for how to clean grout for future reference and to share with friends. I like the handy pen idea for sure!
