Minecraft Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Minecraft Bedroom Decorating Ideas
If your house is anything like mine, it’s been over run with Minecraft! Josh and I were just talking the other day about upgrading his bedroom from the cutesy little boy designs to…..tweenage stuff. (Excuse me while I bawl my eyes out over here!) He decided that he really wanted a Minecraft bedroom so we started our search and….NOTHING! Minecraft is probably missing out on a huge merchandising area here I think! But don’t worry. If you are looking for Minecraft bedroom decorating ideas I have you covered.

((UPDATE! This post is so popular that we have created another Minecraft bedroom inspiration post! Be sure to check it out here!)

The bedspread set that I found is called Bunkrissla and is from Ikea. It has good rviews and the block pattern and colors make it perfect for any Minecraft room! Plus, I love that it’s budget friendly!

Next, this rug! It’s the perfect shade of green and the shag gives it a perfect touch! It looks just like the Minecraft grass.

I’m a little in love with this lamp! I love everything about it. And I think it would be perfect in our Minecraft bedroom!

Minecraft is all about the boxes so I wanted to keep that in the room! This organizer will give either storage space or some display space while going with the Minecraft box design.

I’m sure you have seen these box masks around. And you probably even had some visit your house on Halloween! Decorations can be things your kids will enjoy too! I think that having these displayed would be a great addition to a Minecrat bedroom!

This is another ‘toy’ that I think would make for a great display piece!

This is a vinyl wall cling . I think the kids would get a huge kick out of this Creeper busting through their wall!

Minecraft Bedroom Decorating Ideas

This might be one of my favorite decor items! It’s a torch, but it comes with hanging brackets so you can actually hang them on your wall.

See? Cool right? I think maybe one by the door when you walk in or a pair hanging around a Minecraft poster would be really awesome!

And speaking of posters…. This is a poster made to look like a window. It’s in all of the pixelated glory.

Every room needs a treasure box! This one looks like it came straight from the video game world itself!

Is this a room your kids would like?

DIY Light Up Haunted House – Easy & Fun Halloween Craft

DIY Light Up Haunted House

When I was little my great-grandmother had a big dollhouse. I am assuming someone had made it. Inside there was furniture to move and tons of miniatures to create the perfect home. I loved playing with it! In fact, every time I was there that was my go-to thing. A few weeks ago I was thinking about the doll house. And the thought of making one popped into my head. BUT I have a boy. A boy who if I asked him if he wanted a doll house would look at me like I’ve lost my stinking mind. So I thought well, how awesome would it look sitting all decked out as a Haunted House? Fun right?

I was so excited. So I ran to the store and….those babies are a tad expensive! So while making one is still on my crafting bucket list, this year we decided to tone it down a tad. And make a smaller, light up haunted house. And guess what? It was SO fun. Seriously, the possibilities are endless! And it’s so easy! I think this could easily be a yearly tradition with the kiddos and creating your own, Halloween village!

DIY Haunted House

So you need a house right? These paper mache houses are PERFECT! I love that the lid comes off (so you can easily make it a light up house!) and they come in different shapes and sizes. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby and this size was $5.99. It was 40% off too, so that made it only $3.60! If you don’t have a Hobby Lobby close by, you can order them through their website, but they only come in a pack of 3 (multiple sizes).

I had also picked up a few wooden birdhouses to try before I found this!

You can also look at Amazon. They have different shaped houses, but they are a little more expensive.

Then you just need craft supplies! Go crazy and use what you have! I used paint, scrapbook paper, small pebbles, Popsicle sticks and even wax paper!

I cut out ghost shapes from the wax paper and hot glued them in the windows.

DIY Haunted House

To get it to light up I simply used an Energizer battery operated candle. I love that it flickers (because what haunted house doesn’t flicker?) and as a bonus, it smells like vanilla.

Since our house was lighting up I went ahead and stuck a piece of scrapbook ‘wallpaper’ inside.

I cut Popsicle sticks and painted them grey and just added the RIP with a fine tip Sharpie to create tombstones. The broom was a dollhouse miniature.

Our boarded up front door was just broken Popsicle sticks.

I added a few other small miniatures like pumpkins and on the roof I added two crows.

Our house is pretty simple, but I like it. You can get as creative as you want!

Here are a few miniatures I found online that would be perfect!

Painting Tips From Pro’s

Painting Tips From Pros #homeimprovement #homedecor #painting

If you are looking for a way to change the entire look of a room then a coat of paint could be your answer! Paint has a lot of power! You can showoff your style, make a room look bigger or taller, or even showcase feelings or memories with paint! You can achieve a big change with a relatively small budget. But anyone who has ever painted before knows you have to put in some elbow grease! Here are a few tips to help you get your next painting project done quickly and done right!

Prepping is Vital!

If you think that you can skip over the prep and skip right to the paint, sadly you are mistaken. Don’t waste your time (and money!) by skipping these important steps!

  • Fix any problems! If you have holes or other imperfections fix it with a little Spackle. Let it dry and lightly sand it to make sure it is flush.
  • Clean your walls before you paint! This is super important if you are painting rooms like the kitchen or bathrooms. You want to make sure that there is no dust, cobwebs or dirt!
  • Primer is your friend! Primer will hide dark colors, block stains, and keep your paint lasting longer! It’s an absolute MUST when painting things like wood or covering laminate.

The Right Supplies

You wouldn’t cut your lawn with a a pair of scissors! So don’t paint your home without the right supplies!

Here is a list of supplies (besides the paint and primer!) you should have ready:

Painting Tips

So your walls are prepped and you have your supplies ready and you are all set to paint! Here are a few tips to help you get the job done quickly and correctly!

  • Start with the outside and work your way in. Think of it like a puzzle. First you do the edges and then fill in the inside! You will want to start with painting along the trim, the ceiling line, and corners with a brush.

(Hint: Hold the brush sideways so that the brush is vertical to give you a cleaner line when painting along the trim and ceiling!)

  • Paint in long continuous strokes.
  • Don’t stretch your paint too thin. You don’t want to glob it on, but you also don’t want to stretch it too thin!
  • Paint a second coat, even if it looks like it might be ok! It will look even better after the second! make sure you let it completely dry between coats!
  • Make sure you keep a lid on the paint can after you have poured some into your paint tray. You want to keep the lid on to avoid dust or dirt from falling in or it beginning to dry out.

Painting is a fun and easy way to update your home! What room will your next paint project take place in?

Decorating with Succulents

decorating with succulents

I love having plants growing in our house. If I could, I would be growing a rain forest in here. 🙂 I’ve shared with you our celery plants, lettuce, and green onions. We also have garlic growing as well as a few house plants, some African Violets, and always a bouquet of fresh flowers. Right now my current obsession is succulents!

Succulents are really easy to grow and so many of them have such awesome ‘stories’.

succulents3

This group of succulents I have planted in a clear hurricane (a short one – I bought it for $3.99 at TJ Maxx). The green and red plant is called Pork and Beans (also known as Jelly Beans).

succulents 4

Don’t they look cool?

succulents 5

I have a lot of milk glass. This giant one just screamed out to be planted in! Now since these aren’t planters make sure to some rocks in before the soil to help with drainage. (Succulents don’t require a lot of water.)

succulents 6

Here is what are planted in that giant Milk Glass. The bottom right succulent one of my favorites. It feels like plastic. And when you look down onto it you will see that it is actually translucent to help with photosynthesis.

succulents2

These pretty ones I have in a planter in our window sill. They are a gorgeous pink color. You probably have noticed the pebbles on top. They are there to help keep the soil moist longer as well as they look pretty!

succulents

Here is another milk glass succulent. I love this one! This plant is actually a main staple for the African Elephant’s diet! How neat is that!

Here are some tips for planting succulents:

1. Use soil made specifically for cactus and succulent plants. Succulents are really easy plants to take care of but they do need the right soil. You can find it at any garden store.

2. Light and direct light are 2 different things! As long as your plant gets sunlight it’s ok if they aren’t in direct sun all day!

3. Don’t over water or over fertilize. Like I said easy going plants! 🙂

4. Get creative with your planters. I had a milk glass collection and so I used it! Just add a few rocks in the bottom to help with drainage and you will be good to go!

Succulents make a great impact at a small price! The small ones cost me just $2.50 and the larger ones were $4.00 each at Walmart. I got bags of rocks at the Dollar Tree. Cheap, pretty and they last!
